Actually they aren't jacking up the prices for gas to force people to buy new hybrid cars. Oil companies are jacking up the price and keeping you without an alternative fuel source becuase they want your money, to milk you dry before the next gen fuel source hits the market. Which will be happening somewhere around 2025 by which that time the price for gas per gallon will have reached an average of four dollars, so it looks to me like someone isn't in that big of a hurry to save the people money.
