So we are moving AO to it's own dedicated server. Once the database and files are all moved to the new server, then the domain name needs to propagate throughout the web. So could take up to 12 hours or so.

If it's 12 hours, then why not do it from 12am to 12 pm? Seems more reasonable.
And yea, I'm glad that AO is getting its own server now. It's a hassle, but a good one.
