While law is obviously being broken here (Money is being made from copyright infringment, how ever 'unintentional'), with that aside for a moment, the way I see it is its free advertising. People aren't going to stop watching their 42"+ tv's for a 450x325 pixel image on a computer monitor. For example, when someone tells me of a band, I search Youtube for a music video by them, and that in turn, influences what music I buy.
The only harm being done here is that money is being made made from copyright infringements, that reason and that reason alone is why Viacom's pissed, they aren't losing money, someones just making money off them, cause god forbid someone steps on their turf, and I SERIOUSLY doubt that Viacom (Owners of MTV, Comedy Network, Paramount Motion Pictures, and slew of other media) actually 'suffered' 1 billion dollars in damages. |
