Clarify the situation.

What type of media is the source on? A CD, DVD, your hard-drive?
What are you trying to burn from the source? Music, Movie, etc...?

I ask because if you are trying to burn a movie (which most are DVD9) then you need to do 1 of 3 things.

1) shrink the file (see google for "dvd shrinking") so it will fit on a standard dvd 4.7 GB (this is a time consumming and nasty task)

2) burn it to a dual-layer dvd (8.5GB) which requires both dual-layer dvd's and a dual-layer dvd burner

3) burn it to a Blue-ray/HD-DVD disc which requires both blue-ray/HD-DVD discs and a Blue-ray/HD-DVD burner
