CRC? This is starting to sound like a damaged file system issue. Run a File System check utility NOW! (If you don't have one, you can use the built in XP utility by opening 'My Computer' right click on the drive and select properties, then look at the tools tab...) After repairing the file system (as needed) uninstall the problem application, reboot, then reinstall it...
