Adam was the glowy EVA/slug :P
he reverts to embryonic form and is kept in NERV HQ to serve as the basis for the EVA models. Gendo either eats it or has it grafted to his hand for some ridiculous reason (to bring about second impact intentionally?). In either case: both the angels IN Terminal Dogma are shells. What's left of them that seems to matter (and brings about all the 2nd impact stuff) is in Rei, Gendo and Kaworu.
