My friend and I fall on either side of "demanding" to borrow something. Sometimes she'll politely ask if she can borrow something, and then some days she'll just pick up my bag and start goung through it, taking what she pleases. And I'm the same way.

And yeah, we volunteer loans a lot... we're always trading something.

I think if she said "you have to let me borrow this," it would be because she was really excited about it... but otherwise, I'd just say "no, I don't." [Then I'd give it to her anyway..]
