Epilepsy was considered a sign of someone favored by the gods by the Romans, true. You need to remember though that both the Greeks and Roman priest/esses used drugs to induce visions not unlike peyote now days for some tribes.
In Catholicism you can point to a regime of starvation and self mortification that could lead to hallucinatory visions but that wasn't done until the late Medieval-Renaissance period and had no bearing on the establishment of cannon, even then.
Cause and effect. To simply say they must have been schizophrenic without something to back it up is libelous to the religion and insulting. |
