I wanted to respond to this... No one besides you and Chanti would probably get it anyway.

I find it a bit disturbing that you longed for the "excitement" of gunshots. I mean imagine how it feels being the one getting shot at (as many times as you've been robbed over north, it shouldn't be that hard). And I know you've seen how ****ed up it is to lose someone to violence.... I just don't think you should glamorize it.

Anyhow, as far as transitioning is concerned. I made that leap as well. And at first I kinda missed the hood too. Having to swap the sound of loud bass music, and wailing sirens for chirping crickets... it was weird... those urban noises used to rock me to sleep.

But, now the only things I miss about the Northside... Is that I cant find a piece of ghetto fried chicken ANYWHERE in Fridley. Remember Spur and Amstar? You could even get greens at Amstar. Theres nothing like that in the burbs. I also miss knowing the community. I dont know my neighbors here in Fridley (thats sad, because I live in an apartment complex!). But where I grew up over North.... I knew sooo many of my neighbors. On the weekends in the summertime, It would be like one big huge pot luck neighborhood barbecue. Everyone would be out side. Kids played 2 hand touch football in the street. I would bring my boom box out side and sit on my stoop. Deanna would braid my hair. And we could just sit out in the open and smoke! ...
Infact we'd even get the frequent visit from the neighborhood scavenger smoker! Ha!... Good times.

But its not even like that over there anymore. Most the time I get a chance to go past my old hood... I just feel sad. Nobody is outside anymore, unless they're going from one place to another. Unless they're waiting for the bus. Unless they're selling drugs, or hustlin DVD's. No one cares about their homes or their neighbors homes anymore. All you see is boards, broken glass, and uncut lawns with weeds everywhere.

Maybe where you were just staying at over north... it wasn't that bad. But. that wasn't even the hood hood. That was like the outskirts of the hood.
