Grumble Grumble
GAINAX Studios was the first to set the precedent of producing a revised and enhanced anime release with their 'enhanced' release of the TV series 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' and the new and ongoing movie release of the story. Now it appears that Production I.G. is following the same path by releasing in July an enhanced version of the original 'Ghost in the Shell' movie with new re-recorded surround sound soundtrack, and CGI redone scenes on par with the more recent 'Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex' TV series...

Ghost in the Shell to Return to Japanese Theaters (Updated) - Anime News Network
Now the original release of 'Ghost in the Shell' (which was an International release, partially funded by Manga Entertainment) didn't actually do that well in Japan. But with the more recent success of the anime TV series, Production I.G. may have thought that now would be a good time to try releasing the movie again...
So, is the original 'Ghost in the Shell' worthy of a re-release. And who would be willing to purchase the DVD release of a 'renewed' version of an old (but classic) anime film???
