The four children cheered at the top of their lungs at their favourite songs, even though they were quite a distance away from the bandshell, but unfortunately, the concert did eventually come to an end, and Okysho soon found himself saying goodbye to his best friends as they all headed their separate ways homeward bound.
Okysho and Itara had wandered back across the city, finally on their way home after such a busy, but fun-filled day.
“That was so cool!” Okysho shouted into the pleasantly cool air. “I've never had so much fun in my life!”
“I'm glad you had fun big brother.” Itara smiled, “I had fun too!”
Okysho ruffled his sister's hair again. “Thanks a lot Itara, that was a lot better than hanging around at home with a game controller in my hand.” Okysho's imagination wandered to what would have happened if he had sat around playing video games all day. The cheap music played in his head followed by a yell, then a deep voice saying, “Game over.” and repeated several times.
Itara shook his arm and brought Okysho back into reality. “Brother look over there!”
Okysho's eyes followed Itara's hand. She was pointing in the direction of the city square. Smoke and a dim orange light rose above the city.
"It looks like trouble!" asked Okysho alarmed. "Let's check it out Itara!"
Okysho and Itara broke out into a run as they headed towards the square. They reached their destination and looked around. Their once beautiful town square was now a wreck. The office buildings and stores lining the streets in the area were wrecked and burning, the pavement cracked, bits of cement strewn everywhere. On the far side of the square, police and authorities had arrived to determine what happened. Okysho looked around more for signs of a cause.
There among the wrecked skyscrapers and broken roads was a large dark brown figure. It had one huge arm with a three fingered claw as the monster stomped towards the group of police who began shooting at first sight from the ground with their pistols. The creature leapt from it's position and lunged at the city officials. With its sharp claw, it swiped at the police, killing them all in one fell swoop. The dark figure stopped across from Okysho, content with it's freshly spilled blood, but was unsatisfied. It smelled more and turned around slowly, staring at Okysho with wild eyes. It suddenly leapt at Okysho with it's full speed. Okysho could barely see, but caught a glimpse of the creature's glinting claw as it struck at Okysho. He'd managed to lean back far enough to evade the first blow, but the creature's second strike would hit him for sure, but instead of striking at Okysho, the creature's second attack was at Itara, who was shaking behind Okysho the whole time, frightened. A flash of red as Itara's shoulders were slashed with three sharp claws. Itara screamed and dropped to her knees as the creature retreated at a fast pace back to a safe distance.
“Are you alright Itara!” Okysho bent down and covered his sister.
Itara nodded even though tears had formed in her eyess, and had her hand over her fresh woumd. It was burning with pain.
Okysho stood up and blocked his sister from view of their attacker, stepping in front of Itara with his arms out. “Leave her alone!” He called out, but there was no response, only a long pause at which Okysho and the creature stared at each other. The creature made the first move and leaped forward with great speed and agility, bearing it's claws at Okysho as if to strike. Okysho kept his eyes focused on the creature, thinking only of protectin his sister. As the creature drew closer with every small second that passed, a quick flash of a memory in his mind, a cold blade ripping through human flash, then it was gone. Instantly a feeling of fear gripped Okysho, fear of pain and death. He clenched his eyes shut and braced himself for some sort of impact and the sharp pierce of claws through his flesh, like his memory, the pain seeing through his body, the hot blood dripping onto the pavement, but it never came. The creature had leaped passed Okysho and seized Itara, then jumped onto a falling balcony and scampering upwards to the roof of the skyscraper. He squeezed his fist with Itara in his grip, his claws digging into her arms. Itara screamed then fell unconscious.
A strong rage began to grow inside Okysho. The urge to protect Itara, to save his little sister, the only family he had left with him. Without any doubts or second thoughts, he tore off his brand new jacket, entered the crumbling building and dashed up the flights of stairs after the creature. He finally reached the roof, where his sister was being held captive. Okysho found himself out of breath, but tried to gather his thoughts about how he might now rescue his sister, but there was no time to think. As Okysho burst through the door to the rooftop, the creature dove at Okysho swinging its claw at him. Okysho managed to deflect the blow with his hand, but he couldn't keep up the act for long. The creature swung for his neck. Okysho dodged the attack, but just barely and was knocked to the ground. A sharp pain instantly burst in his chest as three small cuts spewed blood from Okysho’s chest. The creature had ripped Okysho’s new T-shirt open and landed a small blow. Okysho put his hand to his chest to check the damage, it was minimal, and wasn’t bleeding badly, he had been lucky, however it was then, he’d noticed something missing … The pendant! Okysho’s chain had fallen to the ground with a soft thump a few meters away from where Okysho had been thrown. He dove for it, ending in a summersault. He quickly thrust the ring into the pendant. There was a bright flash of light and the sword revealed itself. Okysho drew the sword and lifted it high, dropping the sheath on the ground with a clatter. The yellow jewels seemed to glow on their own accord. The spikes from the hilt glistened in the firelight. He spun the sword in his right hand for a few seconds and gathered what little he remembered. This is where it all pays off. He thought.
Okysho closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Okysho lunged at the creature and slashed with his sword. There was a small flash and spurt of blood. Okysho landed himself on the opposite side of the roof. He looked around him to where he had been hit, but found nothing. Okysho looked behind him to see if he had managed to hit the creature, as luck would have it, he managed to cut the creature's shoulder. He didn’t even feel the blade slice through him, or even make contact with anything, but the gash on the creature’s arm was real, as was the small bloodstain on Okysho’s sword as well as a few sprinkles on his face.
The creature made no acknowledgement to it's wound as it's blood dripped down onto the concrete floor. It looked at it's wound and smirked before mockingly waving Itara at Okysho.
Okysho filled with rage at the creature's taunts. He gave a loud cry just before lunging at the creature again. This time instead of striking, the creature held Itara in front of him to block Okysho's attack. Okysho hesitated, lowering his sword as he passed the by the creature again, but as he lowered his sword to avoid hitting his little sister, the creature scratched Okysho's left arm. Three sharp claws pierced deep into his left shoulder. Moments later, the creature wrenched his claws out of Okysho and leapt away to a safer distance once more. Okysho yelled in agony as he fell to his knees.
"Damn you! Let my sister go!" Okysho yelled at the creature at the top of his lungs as he held his shoulder and stood up. The creature gave a loud screech as if to laugh at Okysho's pathetic position on the ground before lunging at Okysho once more. Okysho staggered to his feet and thrust his sword hard while trying to maintain as much control as he could at the same time in order to stop himself from losing his balance. Maneuvering to the best of his ability, Okysho managed to make his blade evade his sister and hit its mark, the blade sliding crude and roughly into the creature’s flesh before Okysho quickly yanked it out, the feeling of the blade piercing the creature’s flesh, along with the splatter of blood made Okysho shiver. His shot had been lucky. Okysho had managed to stab the creature, making a deep gash into the creatures left arm. No longer able to retain its grip, the creature dropped Itara onto the hard pavement. There was blood dripping from Itara's shoulders from where she was slashed and the recent holes from the creature’s claws were also bleeding badly. Okysho, now even angrier then before at seeing his bloody sister, dove at the creature again giving a loud cry. The creature swung at him with its right, but Okysho thrust his sword in front of him, blocking the attack with his sword, knocking the creature off balance. It stumbled stumbled backwards, and Okysho saw a perfect opening, as rage took over, Okysho delivered a pierce punch to the creature’s face, throwing it to the ground. Instantly he mounted the creature and began to repeatedly punch it’s face, grunting and growling with each strike. Finishing with hisblunt strikes, Okysho grabbed the creature by the neck and lifted it to its feet. The sight of the monster that had tried to kill both him and his sister disgusted him. Okysho’s eyes flashed as he gave another loud battle cry and thrust the sword though the creature's heart. The blade carving through the creature’s skin, muscle and flesh like cutting through a raw steak. It burst out the creature's back, splattering blood all over the rooftop.
