    Post Void VS. Earth

Drake was in position in an old knotted tree, way before the sun broke over the mountain range. The suns growing light cast long shadows of the peaks onto the valley below. He rechecked his weapons for the fifth time. He pulled out his two Razor-Iron short swords, checking for impurities in the black metal. There were none.

he sheathed them behind his head in their respective locations. Then pulled out his long-range weapon, a Shurikin repeater. He made sure that each round inside the machine was correctly put in, and each had an explosive tag taped on. He sowed it away, and flicked his right hand. a hidden blade shot out, its tip had a hollow tip that allows a small dose of nerve poison.

A small dust cloud rose up from the desert floor of the valley. They were here.

Well the set up is good, but it stops far sort of an actual story. I think more plot development and characters are in order.

    Re: Void VS. Earth

The cloud grew as the caravan moved closer. Horses pulled their carts, guardsmen along side, their hands tight on their sheathed swords, ready for action. Drake removed the binoculars from his eyes. he judged their distance to be five kilometers. just outside the kill-zone.
A small glint of light caught his eye. He looked up. A small squad of five Gryphons with crossbowmen riders flew high above the caravan, tight in a Delta formation. This complicated things. If he used his Shurikin repeater now he would be exposed to the enemies above. He though of a different tactic.
He pulled a small brass whistle out of his ammo pouch and brought it to his lips, and blew three short breaths. No sound came out of the small instrument, but that didn't matter. The only thing that did, however, is that the Gryphons heard it.
The flying beasts reared in mid air, their riders struggling to control them without falling off. Drake used this to aim his repeater at the riders. Viewing the targets through the scope on the weapon, he fired five shots. A moment later, five consecutive explosions occurred in the air, sending the crossbowmen plummeting to their deaths.
The caravan was oblivious to the events two hundred meters above them until they saw the men hit the ground, their bodies created impact craters that shot up dust into the lead horses eyes, causing the animal and the caravan to stop in their tracks. Perfect, he thought. Now to make his move.

    hows this?
Drake jumped out of the tree and ran towards the caravan. however, in order to get there, he had to jump off a cliff to get to the bottom of the cliff where his tree was perched. he stopped at the edge of the cliff and looked down. below lay broken and jagged rock that had fell ages ago. he stepped off the cliff. as he fell, his life flashed before him. he closed his eyes, but that did little to stop the memories from letting him relive his past life.

he was ten years old when his parents dropped him off at the academy, never to see them again. he learned later that money had been exchanged to have him stay for an indefinite amount of time. he had lost count of how many times he had tried to escape over the high walls of the facility. and each time, he had been captured and forced into isolation, deep underground. no light came in except when the black armored guards brought food that consisted of a weak green tea and cold chicken broth.

he didn't know how long he had been down their, but one day he had a visitor. a light came on as the woman entered the small cell. she was dressed in a white business suit, a red tie hung around her neck. she had black hair, her skin was a soft creamy white. the thing that stood was her fierce green eyes.

he felt her gaze on him, her eyes seemed to see into his soul. she opened a file folder that was held in her manicured hands, her fingernails were painted the same shade of red as her tie. she read the files inside the folder.

"Drake Hitachi, born 1994, 6 pounds, 3 ounces, brown hair, blue eyes, current height and age; 5 ft, 4 in, 14 years old. grew up in the 75th region, Tokyo Industrial Zone, brought here by your parents--"

"I have no parents!" Drake snapped, cutting her off. she continued.

"over the past few months you had participated in all academy functions and training exercises, scored the highest marks in the Academy's history. then you snuck into the faculty file room, at the expense of neutralizing two heavily armed guards. stole a file that had your name on it, and tried to escape on multiple occasions, am i correct?"

Drake said nothing. he clenched his handcuffed hands into fists as he sat on the only chair in the room.

"what's it to you?" he finally said. the women closed her file and stepped closer to him and crouched down, her eyes level with his.

"my name is Miyu Amaya, i am the director of the Academy, you are here to learn to be the best warrior that we can make you" next thing he knew, he was in the middle of a forest, dressed in dark blue fatigues. a eight inch knife was strapped to his thigh. he pulled it out. the blade was carbonized, its black-metal surface did not reflect in the faint moon light that filtered through the tree tops.

a snap of a twig grabbed his attention. he didn't move. he waited until he was sure he was alone again. with a single flick of his wrist, he threw his knife into the brush behind him. he dove for cover as black needles darted where he once stood. he crawled to where he threw his knife. a man in a black combat suit lay on the ground, the knife protruding between his night vision goggles and the bottom lip of his helmet. Drake pulled the knife out, cleaned it on the dead man's sleeve, and sheathed it.

this was to be one of the many training missions he had for the next fifteen years.

Drake opened his eyes. a few seconds had passed since he stepped off the cliff. he unsheathed his swords in a flash and drove them into the rocky cliff face. sparks flew in all directions as the friction increased between the swords and the cliff. his decent slowed, and he finally stopped onto a ledge that jutted out from the cliff wall with a bone shaking halt. he checked his swords for damage. none had happened. he was two meters from the ground and jumped down. his Harley Davidson motorcycle was parked there, more weapons were packed inside the saddle packs on the back of the bike. he sat on the seat and started the machine with a throaty roar. he thumbed the accelerator. the wheel spun, shooting up dust and gravel. he drove in the direction of the halted caravan.
