Journey's End (My September Entry)
In the blazing sun our lips chapped and nerves in our mouths screamed with thirst.
Baking in summer with armor on, a gallon we would sweat.
Walking from the chow hall you would think it rained, our clothes were all wet.
But it was Iraq’s winter, cold sand cutting my face, was the worst.
Though nothing stopped us when we got a high value targets track.
This brigade of soldiers had the greatest warriors I have ever seen.
There are too few like them and the greatest could not make it back.
Alas, two returned to dust, and mingle with remains of mujihadeen.
The fastest way to home is via atmosphere.
I will gladly go fifteen hours to get there.
Back to where I started, but so much more wise.
The mind is a sword to cut through growing lies.
Mortars and insurgents are things of yesterday.
Like a mountain eclipsed by fog they go away.

A good work, but unfortunately you're using last September's theme. The theme for September 2008 POTM is "Change"...see the most recent post in the theme thread.
