Or can we eat and eat.. And, take and take.
When someone else, they starve across the sea?
We go to warm climates on our Christmas breaks.
...Must be nice for us to feel so free.

You are free to love your fellow man,
Embrace them as a sister or a brother...
You're also free to hate and reprimand,
And, take away the freedom of another.

Freedom of fabrications, lies and fake smiles.
And, the freedom to turn the tables all around.
We could go as far as our minds could expand.
...After all, it's only us that keeps us bound.

We're free to hesitate, before we make new starts.
We're free to not do anything at all..............
If she makes herself a target, he should break her heart.
So she's free to seek a savior from her fall.

IS freedom an absence of constraint?
Or does it more so help define our limitations?
Real freedom is outside the box.
When you exceed your own expectations.

Rather than be held on the leash.
Away from all the world to see,
Unable to roam wild and free.

I don't want this life of misery,
I want to explore the mystery.
    Of the outside, open world,
To see the glorious sight to behold.

I'm fed up with all this dreaming,
Can't you even hear me screaming?
With all this pain you've caused me,
Your not the person I thought you'd be.

So please not let me go,
To spread my wings and start to grow.
    Experiences things other than boredom,
Instead give me whats mine, my freedom.

    You are bound to me
    with an unbreakable chain.
    Your heart I shall keep
and your energy I shall drain.

    Little by little
    your breath begins to weaken.
    Colder and colder,
your hands, my dear, are freezing.

    I press you up tight
against that cold damp brick wall
    binding your hands.
You shall dangle and not fall.

    Light on your feet
your knees at an angled bend.
    Your soul is mine
    for, you aren't my friend.

    I have taken your freedom
and your life soon to follow.
Your body shall hang and rot
while your soul is mine to swallow.

This is what the fighter wants in final seconds to see.
First the brave man did it just to send cash to his mother,
Then wanted to avenge loss of one close as a brother.

Even as I am writing this brave Iranians are demonstrating and being run down by armed men. They are doing this because they understand that freedom is not free. Likewise people on both sides of a conflict fight for freedom.

Apparently Caesar and Cleopatra were intimate. Perhaps that was forbidden by Egyptian law? Who's to say when freedom is such a precarious thing..

Who knows how to break free?
Who can figure out that this heart hurts me?
    No one understands,
For the wind blows freely through my hands.

    Enough is enough,
How can I begin to feel tough?
How can I escape this broken body?
Within this world that is so shoddy?

Help me, oh please help me,

No one knows who I am,
I am the water that breaks through this dam.
    I have finally become free.

I voted for Beast, again. I like his writing style, and the drama in the poem is the best part.

    Signature is a Gwenibe original.

I vote For starfire1036. I once knew a man who kept up with every culture custom among mideatersn tribes and could tell any one how to dress and what dialect they spoke, Never knew how lucky I was until I was stationed with a horride load expert who knew nothing of these things. Point is you recognize something most when you don't have it. Freedom is much the same, we often take it for granted. Also there is this bizarre symmetry in that someone who can right such wonderful works of love and beauty writes this piece when she hears the word freedom, it is so diverse.

    Mmm kay...

I think its a tad weird to blatantly tell who I've voted for. Even if it's obvious. BUT, I will say once again how impressed I am with the outcome. And some of the newer members sure have been hitting up the poetry forum with some worthy pieces.

    Go go gadget CREATIVITY!

Re: July POTM - Freedom [Voting]

I am happy to see people participating in the POTM vote, which I hope starfire1036 crushes this time, but the regular poetry forum is suffering a lot. There has not been a poem other than the ones by me posted since July 30, about a week ago. That is far too little. We need participation in the form of threads and criticism. It is meaningless to post unless there is feedback and a chance to read fresh material.

I dunno, I stress POTM because it is a contest, you only get that month to enter... and if there are few, or weak entries the contest isn't worth while. However I write in the poetry forum when I feel inspired to do so. I HATE when it seems like people are putting stuff in that forum just to have a thread there. Or when they comment and just say"That was a nice poem, I hope to see more". That's not really feedback at all.. I dont feel bad for not having a poem in the forum for over a week, because I don't write poetry to fill some forum quota. I actually think less is more in that forum. Or, a better way to put it is if you don't have something of quality to post... dont post it!
This problem has gotten better since our post count doesn't increase for poems. But since I never abused the forum... I miss having my posts in said forum count for something.

Re: July POTM - Freedom [Voting]

Well I am happy to win this contest for a third time. My main goal was to defeat sazzy and I did so BOOYAH. I always said I did not need to cheat to beat the moderators and this is some good vindication. I will stop competing in the contest, I told myself three victories and I am gone. This is also the first time I have competed head to head with Starife 1036. I have always had tremendous respect for her so that is awesome. Only six votes is bad though, it shows less participation. That is the same amount of people participating, which is very low and I am sad. I think becasue there has been a percieved illegitimacy in voting the contest has suffered. But good idea for those who declared their votes, keeps people in power from selecting winners.
