Thread: Happy Father's Day [06/10]

I've heard its a glorious moment
the first time you see your child
that sweet sweet face
possesed of an urge to pinch
rosey red cheeks
a parent sees their child
as the greatest beauty

But for some this gift is neglected
rejected and turned away
too much of a burden
for your way of life
you toss out that child
in favor of other delights

Oh how quickly they grow!
as she celebrates another birthday
pink ribbons, red rosses and bright balloons
yes there's a smile
while she prepares to blow out those melting candles
but her eyes are still searching the room
I'm sorry Sweet, Sweet child
again he couldnt make it
a few tears are spilt
but childern are resilient
and a phone call or card later
will fuel her hopes once more
its ok theres always next year
but next year he never comes

No longer a child
but a grown woman now
staring at the calendar
she remembers the endeless moments of dissapointment
waiting by the phone
that empty seat at graduation
every single holiday

it has finally hit

the one he helped
give life to
he ignored all along
now, gone are those chances
to secure familial bonds
memories that should have been happy
are bitter and still raw
Pain clenches her fist
crumbling a paper
as she tosses it into the fire
one last word is visible for just a second
then turns to ashes...
