in the past i have traced my scanned art with adobe illustrator before i painted it in photoshop. now i do not have illustrator. is there a way i can do this all in photoshop?
Yes you can, I did my first vector in Photoshop using the Polygonal lasso tool HOWEVER I suggest using the "Pen Tool" it isn't as good as "Live Trace" in Illustrator (for what you are doing...per say) but it will accomplish the same goal the easiest of any tool in Photoshop. Google for good tutorials on the Pen Tool.
