Extracting and Cleaning Up Images

I searched for this topic, but I didn't see someone else has done this yet... So...

I use GIMP to create my images... I've gotten a lot better of the last few years - Lots of practice! (I make all my own sig banners. ^_^)

But -

I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to extract and clean up images better. For the most part, I do a pretty good job on extracting images... But sometimes, I don't really know how to go about making the image seem more smooth. I play around a lot, but I wanted to see what methods other people use.

I have an extraction tutorial for Photoshop, but not GIMP.

For basic cleaning up techniques, just use the smudge tool(should be present in gimp as well) and use a preferred sized circle brush(preferably with the smooth faded edges) and set the strength of the brush to about 40-50 depending on what you think is more natural.

i should make the photoshop equivalent, but that means getting new batts for me mouse(which i have no energy atm to go to the store)

nice tut, i typically dont like the minute blurring of the lines that the blur function offers, though manually doing it is demanding.

I do utilize the smudge tool, which does seem to work quite well. ^_^
