Most colonies are near Planet Earth such as the Lunar colonies which are controlled by the Earth Alliance. It also depends on which Gundam series you are watching because some don't take the time to explain how far human kind has progressed colonizing other planets other then making space colonies and big ass massive killer robots called Gundams.

just happened to read the entire gundam seed manga and boy was it good compared to the anime version. for one thing the authors were hajime yatate and yoshiyuki tomino, the guys who made the first gundam. and know you know why it's similar to the uc. also the story is pretty much different compared to the anime. kira died fighting rau, flay was made into a human bomb and exploded taking the archangel with her when she was rescued by them, athrun killed rau but suffered a serious injury and also lost an arm in the process. seed and seed destiny would have been better if it was tomino who directed it because he made it. it kinda bothers why fukuda never gave some credits to tomino.

i dont think i need to remind you of Tomino's "kill 'em all" mentality. i dont hink a series like that would go over as well as the anime story, where almost everyone lives.

on the otherhand, would that happen to be the Tokyopop version? i read the del-ray print, and it was the same

it's kodansha not tokyopop, and almost really hard to find...this was made before the anime but published at the middle of the show...odd, a conspiracy maybe. the story is more interesting and realistic...for one thing kira is more of a realist than a dreamer (in the anime) and a struggling character who sometimes loses hope. and the enemies (naturals, blue cosmos, and zaft) are a tough and methodical opponent. for example, the battle in orb lasted for 4 days and orb is actually losing the battle even kira and athrun has already arrived. and mostly it explains the plot holes found in the anime version even though it's no longer a canon...thanks to fukuda's alteration.
