I know that it's been a while since I had last worked on this, but between tryin' ta research the gamma fuel source for my universe (of which I think that I may haveta make somethin' up), watchin' my niece and nephew for 2 weeks, and the holidays; I've jus' been really busy. Hope u'll forgive me. Anywho I think that I'd better get on wit the story and even though I'm feelin' under the weather; I need ta get this next installment in...
The Vertigo charged it's thrusters, rushing at the End and The Shadowed Thunder manuvered his MS down in an effort to dodge the coming attack. Kenneth manuvered his machine to grab it's beam rifle from it's housing and opened fire upon the End. Shadow then manuvered his machine to the right, dodging the incoming fire and returning fire with his machine gun.
"He has superior firepower on his side," thought Shadow, "and his mobile suit manuvers fairly well. This fight's going to be tougher than I thought. I need to, somehow, gain the upper hand."
Just then a light began blinking on his right view screen accompanied by a beeping sound. Shadow then maximized the smaller image on the screen ta encompass the whole view screen to see... A federation ship! "Ahh," Thought Shadow with a wry grin, "a federation ship has arrived and they've launched mobile fighters... Perfect."
Shadow then manuvered his suit into the direction of the incoming fighters, he then dipped under their incoming fire and manuvered left, gunning his thrusters towards his ship. Although some of the fighters broke off to pursue the End, the rest opened fire upon the Vertigo as it gave chase.
"What the h3ll?!" exclaimed Kenneth as manuvered up then into a downward loop to dodge the incoming fire.
"What is going on?!" exclaimed Franz, "Why are those fighters firing upon the Vertigo?!"
"The Vertigo has no recognition code," explained the technician, "so the federation doesn't know if it's friendly or foe."
"Well what are you waiting for?!" yelled Franz, "Transmit the code now!"
"Already done so, sir." replied the technician.
Just then, on the view screen, the image showed the fighters backing off of the Vertigo and they, along with the Vertigo, began pursuit of the End. But it was too late, the End had destroyed the original pursuit and had gotten to its ship. And the ship was now long gone.
"D@mn it!" exclaimed Kenneth as he pounded his fist upon the suit column.
Miyuki greeted Kenneth as he exited the cockpit of the Vertigo.
"You're okay!" She cried as she crashed into him, hugging him tightly.
"Ahhh... Yeah." Kenneth responded with a bewildering look on his face.
"They found your uncle," Miyuki explained, "He's fine. They have him in the lobby right now. Franz is meeting with the F.S.S. Nautilus's captain right now."
"F.S.S Nautilus?" Kenneth asked as he looked upon Miyuki inquisitively.
"They're the jerks from the feddie ship that attacked you." She explained, she then put her hands upon her hips, cocking one side out, and put an ignominious expression on her face ta accentuate her disappointment.
"Let's go see Franz and then we'll find my uncle," said Kenneth.
As they exited the launch room for the Vertigo, they entered the hallway to find the Franz engaged in conversation with a man wearing a federation uniform and Kenneth assumed that this must be the captain.
"Ahh, yes," Franz said as the two had gotten close them, "Allow me to introduce the pilot of the mobile suit that you had fired upon, captain. Mr. Kenneth Timbers. Kenneth this is Captain Aleh Hassan."
"Please allow me to apologize on behalf of my men," Capt. Hassan said as he turned to Kenneth and bowed, "We had mistaken you for an enemy, 'cause you had no identification code. Despite that we should have taken better caution and assessed the situation better before taking action."
"It's okay," replied Kenneth, "This sort of stuff happens all of the time when one is engaged in a conflict. There's no real need to apologize."
"Thank you for your understanding," said Capt. Hassan who then turned to Franz and said, "If you have that combat data already handy, my ship can escort it back to the federation so that they might get started on building some mobile suits right away. If we are successful, we may be able to bring an end to this terrible war."
"The data isn't fully complete, though," replied Franz, "We have barely enough data as it is, given the fact that the Vertigo's engagement didn't last long enough to get any suffecient details for recording."
"But still," replied the Captain, "This data should be suffecient enough to at least get started. If we need to, we can 'fill in the blanks later.' It's imparitive that we even the odds as soon as possible to force them to the negotiating table, so that the loss of life can be stemmed."
"Fine," said Franz, "I will make arrangements for a copy of the data to be available to you in time for your launch."
"Thank you," said the Captain, "Now if you'll excuse me." He then bowed, turned, and left.
"You really didn't want to give him that data," Kenneth so much as stated than asked, "Did you?"
"No," replied Franz, "The data is complete enough to allow the manufacturing of moblie suits, though, and my contract cannot allow me to keep the data or the Vertigo from them."
"So that ship was sent here to pick up the suits?" Kenneth asked.
"No," replied Franz, "It was serving as an escort for the ship that will carry the Vertigo, that federation officer, and the suit that she was supposed to pilot."
"Okay, so when is this ship supposed to be in?" Kenneth asked.
"Soon is all that I know," said Franz, "You know how these federation types are. Now I'm sure that you would like to check on your uncle, right?"
"Uncle!" exclaimed Kenneth as he bolted for the elevator to take him to the lobby.
"Uncle!" Kenneth yelled as he entered the lobby heading towards his uncle who was sitting comfortably in a chair across the room from him, "Are you okay? You're not injured, are you?"
"Now, now my boy," Jule said in a calm manner to reassure Kenneth that he was quite alright, "I'm fine. I lost track of you when the chaos hit, but was able to find adequate shelter in which to stay safe. Then these nice people found me and said that they knew where you were and they would take me to you." He had gestured to a group of Guhgenheim employees, as he said that, standing nearby.
"Thank you very much," said Kenneth as he bowed to them and they bowed in return.
"Ohh..." Said Jule as he looked at Miyuki, "Who's this lovely young lady?"
"I'm Miyuki Kurasawa," She replied, "I'm pleased to meet you."
"Oh no," said Jule as he stood up from his chair and removed his derby hat, "The pleasure is all mine."
"Oh a true gentleman," Miyuki said. She then smiled and winked at the old man which then caused him to blush.
"Uncle," interrupted Kenneth, "Let's head back to the hotel. It's been an interesting day and, I don't know about you, but I'm beat and would like some rest." He then turned to Miyuki and asked, "Do you have a place that we could escort you to?"
"Uuumm..." She replied with much hesitation in her voice.
"Then you'll stay with us!" Jule exclaimed.
"Uncle!" Kenneth yelled.
"Now Kenneth, have I not taught you to always be a gentleman?" Jule so much as stated then asked, "The girl is staying with us. She can have your bed."
"Then where in the h3ll am I supposed to sleep?!" Kenneth exclaimed.
"On the floor!" Jule yelled back.
Kenneth's shoulders just slumped in defeat and the three left for the hotel. Franz had watch the whole incident with a slight grin on his face, amused by the whole event. And as he watched them leave he thought, "I do not believe that your part in this tale is quite done, Mr. Timbers. No, not quite indeed."
To be continued...
Hope evry1 likes this installment of this story. I'll write more, hopefully, very soon. I'll also try to finish the drawing of Kenneth and his group as soon as I can. Later, guys.
