in the manga they the cops and the characters, talk a lot about how what light is trying to do (well actually what kira is trying to do) as evil, do ya'll think that it is really evil, or do u think it's something more?

my honest opinion is that it's evil.

It deppens on how you look at it. Look at it from his view, yes he has done despicable things, but what would you do if you were given the Notebook? I think he is really just corrupted by the Notebook's potential. I know if I was given the Notebook, I'd find it hard to resist the temptation of using it. Sure I'd know that what I'm doing is wrong, but if there was even the slightest chance that it could change the world for the better than I would use the notebook.

well, in his eyes, he was perfectly fine. he and L both have a strong sense of justice, however, Light also had a kind of god complex going for him. and having a god complex is never a good thing.

i personally saw Light as the bad guy in the story, and however, i would go as far as to say that he was less evil and more mentaly unstable. Killing cruel and wicked people isnt as evil to me as killing some of the innocent people to save his own ass.

I feel that Light was evil. Even though he was killing only criminals(and innocent people to save his own skin like Ochi Gate said), murder is murder, no matter how you slice it.

well, in my opinion, there are a few reasons good enough to kill people. however, most of the people that Light killed (or had killed) where petty criminals, or people who where on trial. not really good enough reasons in my book.

I can sincerly state that light is in fact evil.
It is proven that he wasn't evil to begin with considering his feeling of regreat after his first killing. It seemed tho..as if he secreatly yearned for something of this sort to happen...considering the fact that he was board and was sick of life. It deemed true that he wanted a new life challenge something to put his mind to the test...the investigation against him withch included L seemed to suit his needs at the time. It was his chance for him to inhance his intelligence and plan out new precautions and try out new ideals on this werthy oponent.
The fact that he continued killing even though he origionaly knew it was wrong proved that he was infact afraid of his demise considering he couldn't die as a regular being would. It forces me to conclude that he wanted to leave an impression on the world..that would remain in-tacked for ever knowing that he would not suffer any further consiquences for his actions other then the ones that he had already reseved.
That is why i believe Light is truely evil.
Forgive me if i spoiled anything i tried to stay to first ep facts tho so it souldn't be a prob...

Well, Light will not only kill criminals and convicts, but he will also kill the innocent for information, or to save his own skin. That shows that light is "evil". Or REALLY sick in the head. >.>
