I think L is much smarter than Near.. Near had Mello to help him even their teamwork isn't official, they still had each other to get some clues about the death note.. and also Near said so that without Mello he wouldn't solve the case and outsmarted Light.. and they're as good as L when they combine their logical abilities.
Yeah L is the best i say he better then kira all because he died with honor man and who keep delteing our thing we wrote a lot of stuuff me and otaku oh well at least we have more fans to talk to cool man i still need ti see how light die i can't believe i miss of all time and yea N and melllo are like l if they work together but L slove all the thing from the start so yeah and i wanted L to live
L is smarter because he was Near's superior. L was the best detective the world has ever known, and Near was his replacement. We all know a replacement is not as good as the original.
Due to the Wammy's House hierarchy (L, then Near, then Mello, then Matt), we can plainly see that L is the smarter of the two.
Granted Near has his moments. He had to work from the bottom up to figure out that Light was Kira. You have to give him props for that.

L is twice a smart as Near. Near couldnt have done anything without L. Espically without L's cash.
