Yes, 08th is probably my favorite Gundam. I definitely recommend it.

I'd say go with the original Mobile Suit Gundam all the way through Char's Counterattack. Amazing stuff, brilliant storytelling. Also if you want something shorter I'd give War the Pocket a look into as well.

I personally would avoid the likes of SD Gundam and Igloo.

As it is for now, I started with the gundam wing. As all the series have different stories it doesn't really matter which one to begin with
