I have a few anime to recommend if you don't know about them already. Definitely top two are Naruto and Bleach, but also One Piece, Vampire Knight and I'm about to check out Death Note, so probably that too. Another two classics are Yu Yu Hakusho and G Gundam and of course you can't forget DBZ.

If you haven't checked out Naruto, Bleach, and ONe PIece then you don't know what your missing. You should also check out Vampire Knight, I just finished that series and I just started One Piece. G Gundam is another classic and you def should check out YU YU hakusho, a true old school classic anime.

Samurai X, or Ruroni Kenshin as it's also known, is a really good anime, if you're into the fighting genre. For a more comical twist, you can try Tenchi Muyo. It has the fighting scenes, but with more humor in it than anything. It's older, but it's definitely a classic in my opinion.
