the problem is that the admins tried that with the shoutbox and teh post count droped horribly. i don't think that a chatroom is any different.
Like on IRC or some other chat program I don't know about. Then users can take there random chit chats in the chat room rather than here at the forums.

IRC cost money and it does reduce the post count. Besides a chat room is just another useless space for spam.

The only thing I can come up with to counter the possibility of decrease posting is accessibility, because shoutbox can easily be accessed and use rather then like mirc, some people may not want to dl it, too complicated or just too plain lazy to get it.

Umm this isn't a chat room...
But anyway from what I recall it was already considered my admin and brought nothing but spam. Besides chat rooms are useless. If you want to talk thats what IM is for. You can have group chats on those too.
