Badges?

Uhhh... I may have missed this somewhere along the way, but what are the little badges and green blocks by my username when I make a post, and what are they for?

Please excuse my n00bish-ness...

badges is the visual representation of your post count. Green boxes are your reputation.

To add to Hassun's post, they absolutely do nothing.
