Clarification of rules

I have visited two threads today that were closed because the topic/poll was "which is your favorite, FMA or FMP?" and another.

Can anyone clarify why AO does not allow these types of threads.

6. We welcome vibrant and educated discussions. However, we advice personal discussions are kept off our forums as this is a discussion board, not a chat room. Any talk of a personal nature should be taken to external services like MSN messenger, AIM and so forth.

Ignoring the spelling mistakes obviously. We can define this as "do not whinge about your life in public threads". But what about personal opinions,surely just about every post is based on personal opinion.

thats because most people do it that and hence a "favourties thread".,
these threads go nowhere and just promote watered down spam.,

So say for example the title was changed to "Give me your opinions of the intricacies and the finer points or artistry and story weaving when comparing FMA against FMP", it would be alright?

Do not get me wrong i am not sticking my middle finger up at the system or anything, but i would have liked to post on those 'watered down spam' threads.

Ok here is a questions. Cut straight to the point which do you think is better and which do you think has more publicity. I saw this cause each one has very similar titles. I mean if someone said FM or full Metal what do you think they would say next? Alchemist or Panic? state which one you think is more popular and why?

I will admit the title could be reworked, but the content of the thread surely gave it some credit.

It is not like it is just asking for a single word reply, if it was, then that would be _the_ most spammiest thread ever.

It is however asking for the persons opinion on why he/she thinks that, which without a doubt would be picked apart like good old fashioned forum traditions of over analysing every comment.

i.e a discussion.

That mod decides of something is spam or not.
If other mods don't agree, we vote.

Well, since the topic of this is pretty broad and my question has something to do with it anyway, I'll ask here ^^

I was wondering how up-to-date are the rules that are in the sticky in the 'Announcement and Events' forum? I ask because when I went over them after I joined earlier this month, I thought the signatures had to be 400 x 110 and that you couldn't advertise your own sites in your signature until you reached 50 posts. But then I saw in two other threads that the signature dimensions are 500 x 115, and I've seen a few people with less than 50 posts with their own links in their signatures. (Also, there's no mention of the "No what's your favorite ____" rule in the Sticky thread as well)

So is there another Rule thread around that I might've missed, or is the Rule Sticky a bit out of date? Or neither? ^^; Thanks in advance.
