Re: Does Anime Online Allow Contention?

I'm aware of the rules... but seeing as those rules were made to cater to the lowest common denominator ("most people") perhaps we should stop closing threads for being "low quality", since "most people" post those too.

Proper forum etiquette would seem to dictate searching for posts one wants to contribute to before creating them again... and if they exist, posting in them. In most other forums it would be the "new", duplicate threads that were punished (unless they had automatically phased out).

If every thread past 14 days is dead, the entire archive is just one big "please break the rules" trap and it's pointless to search for threads that interest you at all, since you can't actually post in any of them.

Not every thread is high traffic... not all subjects appeal to large audiences... and this rule isn't even evenly applied (some forums it doesn't apply to at all, which would imply the rule is unevenly applied and utterly pointless). The threads with the most traffic are the most general, open and often low-quality... while high quality, specific or obscure threads die quick deaths before anyone who might potentially be interested in them can have their 2 cents... or maybe even join to do so.

Not all of us want to post in "hot anime babes", "is sasuke ghey" and "is romance romantic?" But far MORE people want to post in those threads than ones about obscure titles, unliscenced series', cultural topics, etc.

That creates a situation in which general low-quality threads live forever... and high quality, but more specialized ones expire before they can find an audience.

It's entirely possible to follow rules and still think that they are completely, utterly retarded.

And for the record, I always kind of have... though back when the site was very high traffic, I could at least see the sense in the other side's p.o.v. And with more users of more backgrounds around, more varied topics could start actual discussions. Here, you aim low... or you learn not to bother.

In case you didn't know we DO a rule about pseudo-modding...

If there are any other rules you have question about please refer to our FULL and official listing of them:

    http://www.animeonline.net/faq.php

If you think some isn't abiding by them then please use the report feature

Thank you for setting me straight. I do apologize for any offense I may have given. I can see how my post could be read a certain way, if you chose to read it that way. I am not Catholic, but I suppose some Mae Culpas are in order here. After this I will keep my mouth shut after this.

I was obviously mistaken about the taunting. I simply thought that taunting would fall under "behaving in an aggressive manner". I was so clearly wrong here. I apologize for my mistake.

As for the language and reporting. Actually I did contact a moderator about the said language, and the words used. I did not mention who, or which post. I was told that I should report such language etc.... I felt that since it was a moderator I was going to keep out of it. Besides who wants to be the idiot who tattles on a moderator. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, but I guess I did that anyway. It's obvious after this, that they are probably not happy with me now. Great!

It was the "I only do it to watch you squirm" comment that made me feel uncomfortable, and I felt like things were only going to get uglier. I suppose all I did was add more contention. Sorry that was not my intention. We have a saying at work "If you want others to act nice, lead by example". It's just something I thought.... Oh what does it matter what I though/felt, right?

My intention was not to moderate. From the start I thought I would not want to be a moderator. Your jobs are hard enough, and you miss out on some things. Now I'm sure. I would hope you do not think I have a G_d complex. Anyone who knows me, knows that is far form true. I usually try to make peace, or stay out of the mix. I should have chosen the second. I will from now on.

I suppose I owe the two moderators an apology as well. I obviously overstepped my boundaries, and you are both grown-ups. You did not need to hear my opinions. You will not again.

And here is where you people are wrong, no mather the position or status held on this forum (except DB), everyone of us can and should be reported when we broke the rules as well. Being a staff member does not mean we are excempt from any of the rules, quite the opposite, they should be enforced harder on us since we are supposed to be the example to follow....

Any report will be handled according to the rules, regardless of who is reported, and who report him/her... If you feel that your report caused issues with the moderator that you reported then bring the issue to Dragon Ball, he owns the site and has the ultimate decision on what is wrong or right...

We cannot afford to have a god complex, after all we are just members that can be replaced when DB feels like it...

Funny. Apparently you just can't lump all otaku into one subculture, just like you can't lump all metal-heads or potheads into one category. As long as there's factionalization within a subculture, arguements will always be there. SOMEBODY will ALWAYS find a disagreement about something.........it's the human way. get over it.
