Its up to the admin to decide who shall become a mod and in what area of the website. There really only two area in which a person can be "Promoted" to a mod. Its really the gallary mod and the standard froum mod on this website, I think. And its also depend on how long you have been with the website, age may effect the decision of the admin but I'm not sure. And I think you just lost your chance of becoming a mod by asking that question.
Actually, your wrong.
Gallery Mods and Normal mods have the same authority. While Gallery mods have more abilities in the Gallery Back end administration, I still have the ability to edit and approve/disapprove photos.
On the normal forums, there really is no difference between a Mod and Gallery Mod. They are all staff and have the authority to moderate fully.
When a staff member is needed, the lead administrator asks the other staff in the Staff Forum who they would think would be good, along with their own nominations as well, and the staff debate it as a whole, then the lead administrator notifies the prospective member and asks if they accept.
Least that's how I was chosen, and I was among 4 or 5 others who were also up for the position.
There are two key attributes for members who are considered for staff.
The first being their maturity, behavior and ability to follow the rules. The second being their level of contribution to the site and that contributions quality.
There is also one thing you should never do if you ever want to even be considered for being staff
Never, NEVER, ask to be a staff member.
To do so will make sure that you are never considered.
