Posts disappearing over time

This may be a stupid question.

When I first logged in after a long time of being gone (can't believe I remembered my password) it said I had well over 1,000 posts. Then when I posted again, it reset my post counter back to 1. Its weird because some stuff reset and others stuff didn't.

So I was wondering if that was suppose to happen? And also how long does it take of being gone for your post counter to be reset?

Looks like you weren't around the last time we had a 'Great System Crash'. (Loss of data without backups, ISP decides we take up too much bandwidth and cancels the site with no notice...)

Its not suppose to happen, but it does... And there isn't anything the users can do about it...
