A layout contest wouldn't be a bad idea for the future. Also, given how VB actually operates it's not out of the question to allow several skin options for members to choose from, they'd be selectable in your control panel. That way if one person does not like a particular skin they can just select a different one and use that. I certainly wouldn't mind some other choices myself, the color scheme of the new layout is a tad bit too girly for my tastes.
i like that idea and there are so many different skins that can be chosen from you could never really get bored with just one theme which would be a good thing
I tend to agree with Ace, maybe just not as harshly... There is a lot going on with these colors, just feels like I'm shopping for nail polish, or tampons or something. And AO just isn't AO without a kick ass anime banner. Trunks... your idea for a layout contest is AMAZING... I <3 contests! However, with all my poking fun at the colors. I'm not sure how I would fair with the challenge, so I gotta give kudos for at least the attempt at making things [spunkier?] around here.
it might not be a normal color for an anime forum but it does show there changing and that's a good thing so why not give them a chance ? and the contest is a cool idea and i also found some extra options that were not here before that are nice now i can give my self any user title i want which is sweet i like that and the other stuff is cool as well

The site is actually primarily darker than it was (look at the use of before and after color choices for the background), the use of bright headers is like putting neon signs on a drab wall, from a design standpoint it is not cohesive, it would be better to pick one of the colors and use several shades of that color than to pick so many different colors. Personally anything over 3 colors or 3 different fonts makes things look too weird.
I personally would love to see a new theme/skin altogether. Maybe something like this:

Webstats show that the use of white backgrounds and bright colors subconsciously encourage people and thus they stay on your site longer.
Overall the thing that is missing the most is a sense of what the site really is about...Anime! The new logo is nice but why not tap the community and get it put on a header bg image that relates to the purpose of the site?
