![]() | Which RPG type is better??? I've been thinking about this. Which type of RPG is better?? Turn-based or real time battles?? I've played way more turn-base RPs because there is more of them. Though I do love real time battles, turn-base seems a bit easier. It doesn't require you to push buttons madly and worry about blocking with the X or square button (thats what it's always for me) and then there's usually the tech. Turn-base have at leat four options to choose from. You can even think about your next move and what you want to do. Plan on to heal or attack or whatever. Most of the real-time RPGs I have played is (of course) the Tales series. They have improvred it's battle system since the first. Then there is the .Hack series. Somewhat of the saem of the Tales but differernt. I still perfer Tales since you can be one of the other main character not just the main. Some of the turn-base games I have played is the follow: Persona 3 and FES, Persona 4, Romancing Saga, Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, Digimon: data Squad, Suikoden 4, The Wild Arm series, and some of the Final Fantasy games. Now the games are all good (except for a few I still have to beat), but I always am conflicted on which battle system seems better. I do love real-time since I can run around and do a great deal of things but it's also more complex. Turn-base is also fun but you usually stay in the same spot. Like I said before, though, you can plan your next move and prepare in advance. So I'm here to ask you something. Which seems better to you???

![]() ![]() | Re: Which RPG type is better??? I say real-time. ...sadly, they haven't exactly mastered that yet. RPGs have a lot to learn from 3rd-person-shooters and general adventure games, as it gives the right feel for exploring and battling. For now, turn-based battles seem the best due to how solid they are. But I really think RPGs can take it to the next notch and make a perfect real-time that isn't too MMO-in-feel, too basic, or too complicated. ... from what I've played, a mix of a European developer and a Japanese developer could get it right. But due to how almost completely opposite the two kinds are, I'm not sure it's going to happen anytime soon. There'll always be room for turn-based RPGs out there, but I really think it's time that at least 75% of the ones in existence are real-time. We've had turn-based as the majority for far too long, FAR TOO LONG (@_@ In my years of gaming, it really really really feels like it's been going on for FAR TOO LONG). As I said, turn-based is good. But I think real-time can be a lot better if they worked on it more. Real-time is the minority here, and it needs to grow. (look at the ratio of Real Time Strategy Games and Strategy Games, that should be what the ratio should look like for RPGs too)

![]() | Re: Which RPG type is better??? I still like real-time battles. For the few I have played, they are pretty good, but could be much improved. Though the newest of the Tales series seems pretty good. Tales of Vesperia has been much improved since I've started playing the Tales series. The first, Tales of Symphonia, was, I believe, the first 3D battle system for them. That's when I first started real-time battles. For me (I was 11 or 12 at the time) I became addicted to it. Then the next of it Tales of Legendia made the batle system go down since it went back to 2-D. Then Abyss was one of those big improvments. allowing the free-roam battle. It let you run around the battlefield. I was overjoyed. Then came Vesperia (I haven't played any of the others), which tweaked and improved the battle system of Abyss. Of course the Ta;les series is the only real-time battles RPGs I have played. Besides .Hack, there is Star Ocean: Til the end of Time. I think I read before, that they were turn-based, but I loved their battle system. Combination of Tales series and .Hack. I still have to play the newst one. The Last Hope. I've heard mixed reviews for that one though. Turn-base for me is something that I sometimes have the patience for, then I don't. You have to sometimes rely of the luck of circumstances. For example, on Persona 3 or 4 you may attack the enemy but then you might miss and fall, leaving you open for attack. Or like in Romancing Saga. You'll be wanted to attack an enemy and out of nowhere, they might do a new move with their weapon, which might or might not help you, depending on circumstances. I'm still very conflicted which seems better.....
