What is "moe" to you?

So what exactly do you find to be "moe" for you? For those of you unfamiliar with the term (really? you watch anime and am a member of this anime forum and dont know what "moe" is?) it is basically referring to a fetish or even "love" that an individual has towards a character. Here's how wiki explains it:

Wikipedia - "moe"

Re: What is "moe" to you?

I put the entirety of the character; it just too narrow minded, in my believe, to only look at a moe character because of glasses, or they wear a maid outfit.

Such as Tsukimiya Ayu from Kanon moeness for example; to me it was her personality that drove the arrow into my heart: She's cute, annoying, hyper, but when there's a serious atmosphere she knows when to behave appropriately. Also her fear of ghosts is only rivaled by Mio of K-On XD (Another plus if you didn't know).

Going with personality there's the ever popular Tsundere fad going around lately with examples from Rie Kugimiya's fortitude: Shana, Louise, Taiga to name her more popular Tsundere roles of late. There's just something about the fad of Tsundere that grips at the hearts of otaku, and me too; I think it is the secret 'S' inside all of us. Sure, you can argue, with a very good case in fact, that otaku are more 'M' with regards to Tsundere, but the moeness of the two-sided personality ranging from extreme violence and the sort to all the way to timid, almost break your heart cuteness is very alluring to those who like to tease.

I'm a big fan of school outfits; I'll admit it, i have a weak spot for any girl in a sailor school uniform. Then again there are more outfits in the world than just sailor ones like the maid, swimsuit, cosplay, shrine maiden (my true hearts calling - Kannagi was awesome!), and various others.

I'm not too picky with my hairstyle, but i do have a weakness for shorter hair *shrug* Is it just me or has there been less and less girls in anime with pigtails? >>;

Accessories... hair clips and ribbons = pure moe power. But the ribbon can't be overshadowing the loveliness of the girl in question.

A most important other for me would have to be the body; i mean honestly, we all have our own personal taste when it comes to this. I like the innocent, not too 'well rounded', and overall loli-esque types. Think Taiga, she's as old as everyone else, but her body doesn't exactly scream maturized.

Phew... what a rant... and i went easy XD

Kugimiya Rie = probably the best VA of present time to play the role of a loli/tsundere character. She's even done the character of Iori in the IdolM@ster series. Yet another loli-tsundere...(=//w//=)

But for personalities I also like the "quiet and intellectual, with a hint of burning passion deep down inside" types. (Thinking "WTH?" right?) For example: Nagato Yuki (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), Iwazaki Minami (Lucky Star), Machiya Matia (Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica: Black series). Oh, and wouldnt you know it? All those characters are played by Chihara Minori.

As far as outfits go I dont think that anything can beat the maid outfit for me. Its not just the various designs and everything but I think its the fact that deep down inside people automatically portray maids as people that "serve" the individuals' needs. Thats probably one of the things that draw people into it...as much as some people wouldnt want to admit to it.

For hairstyles I usually dont put much thought into it myself, as long as it matches the characters' personalities than I've got no prob. If I had to choose a preference than I'd guess I like the semi-long hair characters the most. Its not short, its not long...its right in the middle of the two. Although recently short haired characters are moving up in my "list". But one thing I dont really prefer when it comes to hair-styles is the "deko" (forehead) look. Sure, there are a couple exceptions such as Ayano (Lucky Star) and Ritsu (K-On!) but than again I still think that they look better with their hair down. Otherwise "deko" characters never really grasps my attention.

Ribbons are good too but..."Neko-mimi" (cat ears) are the best. Though I cant say that this exactly fits into the accessory category either. Some characters have them "naturally" so...

...I think I'll stop here or I'd keep ranting on too. I could honestly say that I can go on for very long if I wanted to. )XD

Re: What is "moe" to you?

I chose "The entirety of the character".

I've always believed that 'moe' is usually the embodiment of all that is "cute" and/or "girly" (Like Scottie from 'Free Collars Kingdom'). I also think that in order for a character/person to be moe, they have to be in a certain age bracket--I've never heard of a 30 year old woman being referred to as 'moe'. ^_^

Also, a school-uniform alone doesn't make one moe in my opinion. You gotta have the personality for it as well.

Indeed, they are very very rare, but they do exist...

Yes, I must agree whole-heartily with neko-mimi. Ever since Spice and Wolf, i've been looking into Inu-Mimi also, as well as the bushy-like tails.

The clumsy factor! how could i forget that one? >_<! It all started back in the day, for me, with Osaka from Azumanga D. There's just something about their helplessness that triggers some kind of instinct to get close to them, help them through life for you know they will only fail if it weren't for your help.

strangely, that's one series that i've always wanted to watch, but never had the time/energy to look for it.

Definitely! The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan really brought Yuki out for me personally, in the original series I only paid attention to Haruhi (as expected) and even less attention to Asahina ("Shocker!" right?), but i think it was in the sixth volume of the book where the guy confesses to Yuki that i fell for her too.

Speaking of quiet intelligent types, my favorite of all time is Tabitha from Zero no Tsukaima. almost a perfect Yuki look-alike, but in constant mage form = perfection.

...true, but really wouldnt it be the case of the artist's depiction of a character? I mean, how many other artists/manga authors have pulled off a 47years-old to look like...well:

Who here that hasnt watched "Lucky Star" would know which one of the girls is the 47years-old mother? (Yeah, that's right, 47) (O_O)

Well "The IdolM@ster" is actually an game series for arcades, Xbox360, and most recently, on the PSP. There is an anime based off of it under the title of "IdolM@ster: Xenoglossia" but...I dont know how Sunrise could take a "Idol Production Simulation" game and turn it into an 12 episode series with the girls from the game fighting in giant robots...I mean really, "What the hell!?".
