Thread: tips and tricks I learned over the summer

dealing with people is NEVER easy. Specially in the food industry. As a waitress I learned that there are some pretty stupid and pretty cool people too... these are some of the things I learned: (stories are fictional ANY similarities with the reality of people is MERE coincidence)

1. Never put in doubt the people "thinking skills in a restaurant"

A: I want tacos
me: ok, what kind?
A: the taco kind
me: sure, what kind?
A: THE TACO KIND! ARE YOU STUPID?
me: ... (breathing and counting to 10000000000)

2. Don't tell a customer you don't have sweet tea... even though the restaurant doesn't offer sweet tea... we had sweeteners but appearently that is not the same...

A: I want sweet tea
Waiter: I am sorry we don't have sweet tea. We have sweeteners and unsweetened tea
A: F**** F**** F***** F**** (repeats it about 50 times)
waiter: *faking the smile* would you like a fruit PUNCH? (thinking inside IN YOUR FACE?!?!)
A: yeah, I think that will do it
waiter:.....

3. Let the customer know that the lettuce is cold so if he doesn't eat the tacos with lettuce within the next 5 minutes the meat is more likely to get warm and then cold.

waitress brings the food (5 minutes go by and he doesn't touch the food at all)
A: MY FOOD IS COLD!!!!!!!!!
waitress: I am sorry sir.
A: what kind of restaurant serves the lettuce cold and lets the meat get cold?!?!?!?!
waitress: (dont' really know what to say)

4. Don't put in doubt the temperature feeling of the customer

waitress burns her hand when picking up the plate to take it to the table

A: MY FOOD IS COLD
waitress picks up the plate (burns herself again and for some reason she feels the plate and the food BURNING!!!!) but customer says it is cold...
maybe this is opposite day... or customer is STUPID and has no touch sense... I don't know!!!!
