2012 thoughts

This was a recent post I made on my blog, but I highly doubt anyone here reads that because I'm just that pessimistic so I'll quote it, censor it, and post a question:

So I'd like to focus on that special date in the future when everyone thinks the world is going to end. Look at it this way, the Christian calendar begins 0 AD, the year Jesus Christ was born, not when the earth was created. Nostradamus must've based his predictions around the Mayan calendar. Also, remember Y2K? Everyone was flipping out about how the world was going to end and how computers would go haywire and bombs would all launch and stuff, but did any of that happen? No. Many people have tried to predict the end of the world, but they've all been wrong. Every religion also has their own eschatology (study of the end of the world) and they are all different, for example Christianity has the book of Revelations that goes through the Apocalypse of John and the Revelation of Jesus Christ, and right there, the revelation of JESUS CHRIST and other religions don't believe that Jesus was the messiah, which means that their view of how the world will end will be different. Well... I hope that convinced some of you or all of you to calm down and go, "Yeah, shut up media!"

I hope my logic isn't at all flawed, I mean I'm sure it has its holes, but I think I may got this thing down. Does anyone agree or disagree with this statement? Simply put do you think this whole thing is just another Y2k? You read my thoughts, I'd like to read yours.

I think it is just another Y2K and besides to say that the Mayan calender ends on 2012 may be a tad misleading. There are several Mayan expert who deny this and point out it assumes certain dates are linked to specific events. But I will say this. Imagine how much teh Mayan folks would have partied at the close of a cycle. So in true fashion I will be partying like a mad man.

Well I think its just that the Mayans got bored of making the calendar so far ahead of their time so they just decided oh well lets just leave it on 2012 :P

I can tell you without a doubt in my mind the world won't end.

Why would you make calendars that far in the future anyways? I find that a little stupid.

Maybe they didn't want to make one each year so they made a centuries worth in one !?

There is probably some reason for it, but I don't think it is complete destruction of the Earth. Schele and Freidel, experts in Mayan culture still think that people are using it to advance a personal agenda.
