Eh, I doubt we'll see any Korean stomping from this.
I think society plays a part in the development of someone like this but not as much as you'd think. Once we reach the age where we can defind good and evil, right and wrong it's all up to us to choose how we act and what we do. This kid just couldn't handle the shit going on in his life and decided to cop-out like a child instead of acting like an adult and dealing with it, honestly sounds like he should have been 14, not 22 or w/e.
'Cause you give me something / That makes me scared, alright / This could be nothing / But I'm willing to give it a try / Please give me something
'Cause someday I might call you from my heart
I doubt it. It's not logical for an event like this to inspire hatred against a racial group. Unlike 911 this was a single occurance involving one individual. The fact that he was asian played no part in anything that happened and was merely due to chance.
I would have to agree with this post. The kid happened to have some very deep issues anyways and the motive is still unclear. If the teachers are telling the truth, this kid was prob just a walking time bomb.
Such a waste of life. Even though I am South Korean myself and a loner, close to his age; I have no fear what-so-ever about this incident. I don't think there is going to be any backlash in my opinion, but if there is, that is going to start something extremely stupid. The Japanese are still fighting for justice in what happened after Pearl Harbor; it will only piss a lot of people off I am sure.
^_^ Guess that's why everyone is asking me how I'm doing all of the sudden. ^_^
There always is a backlash, small or big. It may just be those in that area, but there most likely will be. People as human often hold things against people that don't deserve it like cho did with all the people he killed. Since he's not alive anymore, though he will always be blamed, some people may direct their anger toward Koreans or other asians as some did toward Arabs or whatever during 9/11.
Come dance in the rain with me, no one is watching.
Certainly there will be a backlash against the Asian community, especially those of Korean descent, because Cho Seung-Hui himself is a South Korean. It might not be as overwhleming as the the backlash from the 9/11 tragedy, but there will be a resulting discrimination. In this case, I am guessing it will be a more subtle reaction (awkward stares, avoiding eye contact, etc.), but offensive nonetheless. It is a sad reality, but many peope are simply very discrminating. I fear that Asians will be victims of further discrimination, because the incident will surely give them greater cause to support racism. Hopefully, this backlash will be temporary and will not have a lasting effect on how people of other nations will consider Koreans, like how blue_rebel's soon-to-be coursemates are currently treated.
Personally, I think it is illogical to blame the incident on a whole race just because of one man's act, a man who just happened to be of that race, but I guess with all the tragic deaths caused by the incident, people will feel a need to place a blame on somebody for what happened...
