I used to follow trends all the time particularly when I was in middle school. I had this idea that if I did everything like how the world told me I should be that I would somehow gain respect and likability from my peers. It also went along with the idea that if I acted like everyone else that I would gain a sense of belonging.
I have grown out of following trends, though. Mainly because I felt like I was living someone else's life. Instead of just being me, I was being the me that I felt the world or society would want.
Now, if I follow some mundane trend it's because I truly like it. I don't really care if it's "in" or not. In fact is that not a trend in itself? Doing the opposite of whatever trend is popular at the moment?
There are some trends that have annoyed me, though, and have made me wonder why they ever got popular in the first place. For example, at my school, purses with giant sequins that would shine like a disco ball if it was ever put into the sun used to be popular. Me? I hated them. In my opinion, they were ugly and incredibly gaudy. There's no telling how many times one of those evil purses would blind me as I walked down the street.
In the end, are trends pointless? I don't think they're evil but I don't think you should get into a trend because you feel like you should because everyone else is. If you must follow a trend then follow it because you want to.
Will trends always be around? Yes. If you look through history there have always been trends in behavior and appearance. The thing that keeps trends alive is mostly because a lot of people feel that if they follow trends they will gain social stability and feel like they are apart of something. Basically like me in junior high.
I'm sure there are other reasons why trends have been kept alive but they're just not coming to me at the moment. And this post is long enough as it is.
Trends r such a drag. People around my way usually dont get out of the neighborhood often, so when they see something new, they use their sharingan and try 2 copy it. It's like when I became a vegan. 2 monthes later people around my way began claiming veganism (meanwhile, they where wearing leather sneakers and buying eggs). It cant be helped people r afraid to be themselves, so they rather be someone else.

guys in skinny jeans......BLAH what the hell lol, tight pants are fine but tight like a tiger....c'mon now fellas, that and the fact that everyone has a fuax hawk now a days.
trends...I don't mind some, cuz I think we all follow some sort of trend, but there are definately those that just irriate me. The bigs ones for me is over exotic hair styling and tanning salons. Sometimes nothing turns me off more than seeing some girl with a painfully obvious fake tan. Ever seen an orange skinned girl? What an embarrassment. I'm also not a huge fan of people who style their hair in ridiculous "hip" fashions, or girls that dye their hair a different color like every other day. God or whoever the hell you believe in gave you a natural hair color, we can't we be content? There are more interesting ways to express your individuality in that regards.
another one for you girls: wearing maternity clothes when you are not pregant. Seriously, what the hell? a stick of a girl could wear those and look like a she's got a muffin top, it's not attractive at all. whoever started that trend should be murdered.
In my opinion why even get trends?They change quickly enough anyway.The annoying things is girls and their ever changing trends.
The only thing I find really annoying is when young girls MUST manicure their nails.They chip it and oh no here comes a fit...

Neither do I follow any trends unless I really like the idea, for example I followed the trend of sheoes that had round toes and I still only wear that kind of shoesAnd I also like the wide pants and I only wear those too ^^
I really hate it, though, when i find in modern shops clothes that my mum is storing in a dark room, becausr they are like from the 70s O.o it's just terrible!!! For example, blouses with lots of fluffy stuff or sweaters that are in all the colors of the rainbow.... lots of odd odd stuff O.o
And people wonder why the world is the way it is today. A parent if a good one, should only want he best for there child, and was to guild them the best way. I hear my parents now. Saying there are some things they wish they listen to there parents on. o_O And I've seen those that try to live there own life and put there parents teachings behind them. There down in the Dump thats what up. Hoping there parents will come and save them, and get mad when there parents don't. Actually I never notice how thin males thighs were until this trend! I was in shock!
I was like "Look there thin" And actually tight pants have been proven to lessen sperm count. =P A pity.

XD this is very interesting! But what I'm thinking is the trends for having a baby (or similar)is one thing,and clothes-hair,etc. is another. This is a whole other level of life-changing seriousness! Trends for having children? lol,the only reason to want to have a child is if you want one,and are doing it for the right reasons. Some people don't want any,some would rather wait,Oh! I guess they'll miss out on the trend......better hurry then! Your time is running out,because tomorrow it will be uncool! And I also like all my shoes nice and round-toed. It just feels right...
