    Wink Backpacking Culture

Ok i started this thread becuase i became interested in learning about backpacking.

It really hasnt seemed to have hit the U.S,
but i hear its becoming popular around the world including Europe.

I was wondering if anyone knew how backpacking worked,
what its like to be a backpacker culturaly and financially,
and also where and how Backpackers get to where they go and why.

So far all i know is backpacking is a form
of international budget traveling, usually just youth who wanna see more
of the world so go hitchiking or walking through country to country
while staying in at cheap hostels.

But more in depth i dont know much about backpaking, or its culture particularly.
    Yay-yea?

    Re: Backpacking Culture

I know for a fact that there are magazines here in the US that dedicates to this topic. My friend wanted to grab us to do backpacking a few months back when we were planning to go to Europe. Of course he was just in a phase and we didn't really want to backpack Europe when we haven't even hiked across our own country.

So if there's a borders or something you can go to look for that type of magazine. It'll give tips and recommend shoes and backpacks to use.

    Re: Backpacking Culture

is it possible to start backpacking on virtually no money?
like possibly couch surf, work at hostels?

and how do backpackers make money, anyone know?

i think it would be fun to go to europe and just back
pack for a couple months you know?

but i also want to see how realistic it gets.
    Yay-yea?

Yeah, but on a common sense stand point I wouldn't recommend it. Virtually no money means that if you get sick or have an emergency you're game over. Pretty sure you can get temp jobs everywhere, but couch surf you would need to have friends. And you need money to at least stay at those cheap hostels.

You could always sell your body as you go, but will there be any takers?

    Re: Backpacking Culture

    of course there are.

it would be neat going backpacking, though i wouldn't do it myself.. having your own bed is certainly appealing.

question: would you put the canada patch on your backpack or a us one?

naturally, it's the canadian patch. oh, i've always wondered why americans threaten to move to canada.. wouldn't they just want to? it's such an upgrade.
