In your life which has helped you more?...
book smarts or street smarts?
I'd say street smarts since I forget what I read in books.
I tend to trust my first instincts about people and like reading body language if they are good or bad.

um..I'd say street smarts because you dont use everything in books and that somethings you just get right because you feel that its right.
Well, I think I would have to say that my "street smarts" has gotten me through a great deal. I use alot of intuition to get myself through life. Not to say that to be really skilled in life doesn't require actuall study. Because it does. I have studied people, and how they operate. And I learn what to expect. I also make alot of EDUCATED guesses and decisions. So what I have absorbed in my many quests for knowledge, has enhanced my street smarts. (By the way, some of the things I have learned about how humanity functions... Has indeed been from books :) )
I have found that both are very useful. I try and have a lot of both.
I would say street smarts, because just knowing how to get by is honestly a little more important then knowing advance crap you read out of books that you will probably never use. and besides after the millions of years that humans have been here, i would say that our instincts cant be to far off..
It is a combination of both, my good people, that helps me through the day. Street smarts help me out with both my charm and wit. I can be friendly and humble to whoever looks my way, and also know when i should or shouldn't make eye contact. It also lets me know when i should fight, or not bother.
Book smarts teaches me things like exactly what street I'm on, the history of that street, what buildings are there and the history of them. It also helps me with my wit because, as Garfield the cat once said: "Never try to outrun what can outwit."

For getting a well paid job, well that depends....
No doubt that street smarts would be necessary for any sales or marketing position, but for technical or professional positions, there is simply no substitute for a well earned college degree... And census statistics do show that on average, persons with a college degree do earn significantly more then persons with only a high school degree...
Street smarts hands down. but then again im from the harsher part of my area and book smarts dosent really help when your dealing with gangs and crackheads. But for the main part the only street smarts needed where i live is dont let anyone punk on you and keep a eye on your friends and your own backs.
