Thread: A borrower or lender be

And there's a moral there somewhere.
Finding a (and or maintaining) a job in this economy is a pretty damn big gamble. Why do you go to Vegas and need money to throw away?
Unless your friend was feeling lucky and his gut instincts in that regard are pretty reliable, I'd say you were pretty . . . stupid for loaning the friend the money.

As for the other question (would I let it ruin a friendship), nope. Money comes and goes but friends (of the highest caliber) are priceless. Granted I'm pretty sure none of my friends would ever do that to me and at the very least I know they'd tell me"I'll pay you eventually" at the very least. . . .

I don't loan people money unless I don't care if I ever get it back, like my mom for example, I will loan her money, and its okay if I don't get it back because shes my mom. Other people I have to track them down and make them give me my money back. Its way too much of a hassle. Thats why I only carry credit cards, and I pretend to be poor.

I wouldn't end a friendship over money, or at least until I got it back from them first.

no i wouldnt, money is materialistic compared to the realness of friendship. Unless the money was really needed back its always good to give time to recollect it back so it can be repaid. like you said with the economy being really crappy and him also having finacial issues, you shouldnt throw this friendship away just yet. He may just be hiding from you now since you keep telling him about repaining you.


unless he goes and buys something worth that or more, is when you really need to get ahold of him and consider how things are between the two of you and your friendship.

On that note, I have never borrowed any money from anyone. If I didn't have the money, I simply wouldn't do anything that day. A good friend doesn't borrow that much money, in my opinion. If they knew they couldn't pay it back, then they shouldn't even ask for money. A good friend would also see the need to return the money as soon as possible.

I've never had to decide between continuing or ending a relationship over money, simply because under no circumstances do I lend money to family or friends. It may sound greedy but I believe I avoid creating many more problems withholding money than handing it out would solve, as handing it out tends to be the beginning of the end for many relationships. I've seen friendships ended and fistfights break out over no more than 5$.

For example not too long ago my brother lent his friend 70$ to buy something for his guitar under the promise he would be paid back - after I warned him not to and that it was very likely he'd never see the money again - however my brother believed that his friend was true enough not to scam him. It's been about 3 months and he has yet to see a dime, and now they aren't friends anymore. That's why it's never a good idea to lend money to anyone, even under a legal contract.

Now my thoughts is hiring the mafia to threaten him for his unpaid loan

Umm.. If it's my close friends.. I'll never ask from him back what he loaned from me.. I mean we pay back to each other in our own way,... It's among many reasons that keeps our friendship intact... ^^ but strangers? I won't borrow them any money.. others.. it depends ^^

I don't loan people money, at least no where near that much, 50 bucks is the max for me. I have been called scroog, tightwade, and I have also been called a Jew... Well if you call me a Jew then I guess your saying I am better at handling my money then you are and there for take it as a compliment more so then an insult you jack asses.
