Thread: College life

I, myself am not in college, but I must say. I cannot wait until I actually get there. No rushing needed, I'm in no hurry to "Grow Up". But I just want to get the whole kick of being independant and going to class in your pajamas, lol. Let us not forget about the partying, people. But classwork is number one priority for college. High School however sucks. Which is another reason why I am so eager to approach the college life. I will in no way miss high school.

Yeah, if I find freshman year difficult, I hate to think about how much worse it'll be once I start my core coursework in second year. Isn't frosh year usually all about general/interdisciplinary studies in most American colleges?

You'd think, but it starts us off right away. D: At least this college does.

Well gurl I'll disappoint u in that... if u hate HS 'cos of the schedule of the "hard" stuff u had to study... u'r going to hate college even more...
College is about independance yes, and it is pretty cool.... but one has to be more responsible for oneself.... it is not only about paties and fun... there is a looooot of sacrifices to do. I love college and I am glad to be studying what I like.... but it demands a lot... it is great though 'cos then I'll be a quality professional.
My point is: don't get a wrong (movie) idea of what a college life is...

Very true, if you go by what movies show you, you're screwed.

It is not exactly a WRONG depiction of what college life is, more like these movies are only depicting a part of what college life could/should be. Honestly it just depends on the lifestyle you are going to take. Those who enjoy their first year with non stop partying, chicks, booze, waking up at 3pm will soon realize they are also enjoying their LAST year in that college.

Personally, college was great for me, because I was somewhat responsible. HS was more like a jail to me, and the ghetto people in my school didn't help the situation. It was like jail with everyone going to lunch at 12...march in one line...Now I set my own schedule, the students there paid for their education so they want to learn, and since most of the society garbage students in HS don't go to college you'll mostly end up with cultured and professional classmates.

Interesting. Here, a lot of people put university a lot higher than college. The typical thought of college is, its easy and morons goes to college while the smart one goes to university.

The key difference between college and university is that college is more practical - more hands on and university is more into knowledge - big lecture halls, take notes, sit and let the prof. preach.

It pisses me off back then when people think university is superior to college while a lot of university student dropouts/grads ends up going to college because the university they went to did not provide the necessary training - they have the knowledge but no hands on experience.

My college life so far is, not bad. A lot more free time but the program I'm in is kinda intense. Course, there are low assignment weeks but mostly I am kept busy. I'm not gonna get comfortable because I will leaving in a month or so cause I gotten into a private training school - starts Sept. and I will be working till then. My campus is within a university campus, which is frigging huge, theres even a mini mall. I hate my 8am class.

Just weekends? Er, are you sure you're not in a jail or something? At my university dorm rooms are open whenever, just show up and you can get in (the doors into the dorms are locked though, so you have to have a key or know someone who has a key.....but all students in the dorm are given one). It's just to stop random people from going in and stealing stuff....

But as for my experience, I'm not a freshman...this is my 4th year though I've been going part-time. Unfortunately though I don't live on campus, or close to campus (I have to drive for 45 minutes), so I'm kind of left out of the 'university scene,' which really sucks because I miss the parties. Our university used to have really big parties, but they super cut back, so parties are a wee bit limited now.

In terms of difference to high school, University is WAY better. For the most part, you're there because you want to be (unless you've been forced by your parents). With highschool, you have absolutely no choice, it's just something really boring that you have to do. Also, for the most part, there's less work per term...you have generally have about two essays, and one final exam and that's it...though the essays require more effort than in high school....

Though, while I write this, I'm aaaaactually supposed to be working on an essay that I have due this week, so I'm gonna log off and do that now hehe.
