![]() ![]() Credits: 16,671 | Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! ...now what? Greetings to AO members, Let us suppose that you were that lucky recipient, who has won herself/himself a cash prize that amounted to 10 million, say in US currency, dollars. Now then, what befalls that money? In what would you invest that money? How would you spend it? Would you allocate and contribute part of it to something? If so, what would that "something" be?!! Have we any ambitious philanthropists here? (You don't have to be painstakingly detailed. Just have fun with it!) Lastly, please attempt to address this question: How do you think your life would be different having won that money compared to when you were without it? Come now, lets get that money leaking, Richie Richies. ![]()

![]() ![]() Credits: 40,661 | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! Grumble Grumble Grumble Though now a days, 10 million dollars isn't what 10 million dollars used to be. A once of Gold requires around $800 to purchase, but back in the 1920s, you needed only $28 for that same ounce of Gold. And the chocolate bar that runs you $1 at vending machines is smaller then the chocolate bar I could buy in grade school for 5 cents. And in the Silicon Valley, a normal 3 bedroom two bathroom house has a median price in the neighborhood of three quarters of a million dollars plus tax and interest.... If I did happen to come across 10 million dollars, I would keep 1 million in a money market fund, just in case a nice Silicon Valley property is forced onto the market with a bank foreclosure sale, then stick half of the rest in a Wilshire 5000 stock index fund as a dependable conservative investment for retirement, and stick the rest in even more conservative tax free State bonds and US government backed securities, as its hard to tell what direction the economy is headed...

![]() ![]() Credits: 32,101 | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! First off, you should have said Kuwaiti dinars, since they are the highest valued currency in the world (1 Dinar is worth 3 US dollars.) highest valued currency unit (As of April 2007) And you're forgetting that the Canadian Dollar is worth more then the US dollar. I'd pay off my debts (My car loan, my student loan), my parents Debts (Their house car and tent camper loans) then send them where ever they want to go in the world, put a 200,000 away in a high interest savings account for my 3 nieces and 1 nephew for their college education so they have the choice of any college or university they want, Buy a house in cash, pay the bills and utilities for 5 or so years, buy the most powerful computer available on the civilian market, then put the rest in savings and live off it for as long as I can, while still working and putting what I earn in savings as well. and Rayme, be careful about calling a particular age "old", Len's turning 50 soon, and I'm pretty sure he's young at heart.

![]() ![]() Credits: 6,811 | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! ^_^ well, first i'd buy everyone nice Christmas presents! then i'd pay for Lucky's headstone and Tybalt's shots... after that, i'd give my Darling, parents, and sister a portion of the money to do what they will... depending on my mood i'd give some to my niece's bank account, but that entirely depends on her attitude... then i'd try to give 10% to my Church... so that's be $1 million, right? and then i'd bury some in a hole, put some in the bank, and invest a good portion of it into bonds and stuff (good for the community and a solid promise). later on i'd probably play the stock market, but not right now. ^_^ i'm saving so much so that when Soshi and i get married, we'd have a house for sure!

God's Little Girl | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! $10m is an insane amount of money. I wouldn't even know where to start spending it. That being the case, I think I'd store $9.5m of it in a fixed deposit in the bank (to earn more from it, duh!) so I won't be able to touch it while I think of ways to splurge. And then I'd sign a load of thousand-dollar checks to organizations I support and to charity, and spend a couple thousand on stuff I want (i.e. clothes, accessories, tech needs) and/or need. And whatever's left (which I daresay should be a few hundred grand) will go to nice presents and stuff. No one in family has loans to pay off (we're all dead against taking out loans), so no worries there. I probably wouldn't even buy a car because there are already 3 (my dad's, my mum's, and my sister's) in my house, and there isn't room in the garage for more. +__+ And I definitely don't want to spend money on renovations just so I can fit some damn fourth car in the garage.Aren't I a good kid. I know how to save! ![]()

![]() ![]() Credits: 8,797 | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! hmm if i ever won that amount of money. i would most likely just chuck it into a saving account of some sort. i mean $10 million with 5% interest will make $500 000 per year. and for me thats more than enough to live off. all u have to do is wait a yr and i'm more than patient enough for that. and i couldn't spend $500 000 all in one yr, mainly cause i would hate to live a life of high class. that stuff is just not for me. and if ya think about it, the money in the back will never disappear (well unless something big in the economy happens, which i doubt would happen over here). so an endless supply of cash, sounds nice doesn't it?. plus the money i don't spend i'll just walk around the streets and bi+(h slap some random strangers with money. i always wonder what that would feel like.

![]() Credits: 155,707 | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! Put it in the bank! YEAH! Why you ask? Because if i put it in the bank i get interest, and that means more money! i'm not greedy or any thing its just that i am thinking smart *points at head* Well that one is tough! it looks easy but when you get to thinking about it, it hits you, 'dang what would I do?' well this is what i came up with in this short amount of time, I would first off pay off any debt that our family has and maybe even more, i'd pay off coledge, then my house, and at some point i would donate to some random charity bout a 1000 or 2000 depends on my mood! And then I alwys wanted to go to japan! So i'd put some aside for that trip, my mother always wanted to see Alaska and the whale so then i would take her there, wow i think that should come close to rqualling 10 mill dont you think? Probly not, that like 3 mill at the most, of course i would by little things here and there, but nothing big so iwont put that down, I would some how help other people with whats left, ooohhh and i would pay off my younger sisters collegd if she decides to go to colledge! Wow this is a lot of thinking! i dont know how long this took me to type? not that i am getting further in to this, 10 million is alot of money! I hear questions like what would you do with a million bucks? and stuff like that~! but this one, has somany possibilities, winning just 10 thousand I wouyld be happy! Thank you so kindly for asking that question, great one, yeah but to shorten that up just pay all the debts. and fro futer plans. Were going to disney land! Not! Yeah i like to help others so if i can do that tha would make me happy, but i'm not donating the whle 10 mill the world would think i'm crayz! "what are you doing donating all 10 flippin million bucks" yeah theyed put me in a straight jacket, probly not but eh? Just so you all know i didnt read the peoples responses before this i wanted to get to this right away! so if i said any thing offensive sorry~ *slap* ok now i'm rambling well that is what i would do! So if there is any thing that you think i shoud change? Feel free to tell me i'm open for suggestions~

![]() Credits: 49,182 | Re: Congratulations! You've hit the jackpot! Money... money... money *giggles* where to put you? I would probably invest most of it in my education, because if money can loose value, house can lose value, land can lose value, but my education won't probably, though wages can go down too ofcourse... Then I'd put some money in a bank to grow untill I need it. ![]() Maybe I'd buy some plane tickets... ^^ :P I don't think my life would change much.. unless because of that plane ticket. It's not like I'm getting that money every year so I could live posh (I wouldn't want anyways)... |
