Does the apple fall far from the tree?

Has your parents' relationship influenced you more as a healthy model to imitate or an unhealthy one to avoid?

My mom and dad had problems in the past and I wouldn't like to have a relationship where there is too much drama. My dad was the peacemaker. Mom had fits. What I like is that they are still together now... but I would take more vacations.

Yeah my parents battles was usually about how dad watched too much tv and didn't help in the house. Mom is still stressed but I know they love each other and it sounds your parents really love you too.

If my marriage turns out like my parents... i'd probably go insane. >< I couldn't imagine being my mother. To be honest i don't know how it's lasted this long. But it's an unhealthy one that I would LOVE to avoid.

My parents haven't really influenced me at all to be honest, they have mainly just taught me important life lessons and care for me.

Re: Does the apple fall far from the tree?

I do not believe someone has to be the same as their parents, but I think children have a lot of tendencies towards the way they were,be it relationships,personality,....etc. One thing is this is the example set for the child(especially during the formative years),and there is also genetics, but if you don't like what your parents did,you can make an effort to change any of their negative patterns you see in yourself. My parents got divorced a long time ago,and I do not want to make the same mistakes that they did. So,on another note,The apple may not fall far from the tree, but it can always roll down a hill....
