Reading does improve ur vocabulary skills but not necessarily ur speaking skills coz we don't usually use complex words in everyday speech unless u talk in a speech in a lecture or something lyk dat

    Yes and No.

It can increase your vocabulary, and speech skills, but not for everyone.

If it were true for everyone, then why are there still nubs here on AO with over a 1000 posts who can't use proper grammar to save their lives. Huh?

I remember in my geography class we had to write words in the air, one hand writing it forwards and the other mirroring it!! now that a short while to get it right!!!

Still one way to get it into your mind!!

Re: Does reading alot really improve your vocabulary and speech skills?

I think it does but I think you have to actually like reading for it to actually help. I mean let's face it. If you don't like reading then you just don't like reading. I just know that I am an avid reader and I believe that it has helped me in many ways and has opened my eyes to different viewpoints and ideas. I will say that after reading so many books I can't stand to make a spelling error or an incorrect sentence. It just bugs me.
