Emancipation of Minors (Getting out of the Parents House)
I have no idea if that is spelled right but a friend of mine is trying to get emancipated and I was wondering if anyone on AO has ever been emancipated or has even thought of it and why.. I was also I was wondering if anyone knew anything about getting emancipated... I'm very interested in this because I am also considering it but i am not sure if it is the right path for me..
MOD EDIT
What the user here is trying to explain is the Emancipation of Minors, or legally removing a minor from the care of their Parents or Guardians. Once this is achived, they legally have the rights of an Adult with the exception of participating in age restricted activites (Buy Tobacco, Alchohol, Pornography, Gambling ect). This is rarely done unless there is a situation where it is in the best interest of the youth (Cases such as abuse).

Re: Emancipation of Minors (Getting out of the Parents House)
I never really had to do this. I moved out of my parents house when I was 17 (I am now 22) and went to live with my sister, and I have since moved back into my parents until I can get back on my feet and move out.
For us to really be able to have a discussion here, we really need to know WHY you want to do this.
Life sucks. It really does. I've gone months making the choice "Do I pay my rent, or do I buy groceries" because I didn't have enough money for both.
My question is, Are you ready to live on your own?
Right now, you're 16, and I serously doubt that you are ready to live on your own. Most jobs that will pay you enough to be able to afford an appartment, utilities and groceries won't even look at you till your 18. Nor will they look at you till you have a High School Diploma. So unless you want to work minimum wage at a fast food joint for the rest of your life, I strongly reccomend you stay at you parents house, get your education, strongly concider going to college/university, then move out.

Oh.. sorry. Thank you for the editing Aceman67. ^^
No I'm not but I have a friend of mine and his wife who are willing (they actually suggested the idea) to have me live with them due to the fact that I am emotionally at risk along with Physically. If I got Emancipated i would still have to continue schooling because it is a state law. It is only two more years and some people who have been through worse than what I have however, I am afraid that if I don't move out and say the wrong thing to my parents I will die. A few months ago my father grabbed my throat because I had an attitude with him. The reason why i had an attitude was totally beside the point. After that happened I cut my wrist... Some people say that I am being emotionally abused and that is what is causing me to do this... but then again it's my own fault that i do cut my wrist.. A lot factors into this, I know.

If you are physically at risk, have somewhere to go, and can do it legally run and don't look back. It's much better then having your friends attend your funeral. I have a friend who was made a ward of the state to protect her and it was the best thing that ever happened to her.
Re: Emancipation of Minors (Getting out of the Parents House)
as of now i think im too young to do anything of the such (15). never really wondered about it either, i knew about it, but the thought just never crossed my mind.
