It seems like whenever people talk about "the future", without fail the mention of flying cars comes into play. But I was thinking about that the other day and started wondering; would having flying cars really be worth it? Is it a dream worth investing in or is it just another scientific fantasy we'll always be talking or joking about? I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on the pros and cons of a flying car.

In the immediate future I see more potential in hovering cars. Something like maglev trains.

Flying cars simply aren't practical for the majority of drivers. Just think of the costs of getting a pilots license, buying the very expensive vehicle, the insurance costs, etc.

This represents nothing more then a very expensive niche hobby for the rich. However, if you do have the money...

In all honesty, I think it would be worth it. but it doesnt really matter if we think its worth it. They're already working on it, along with stuff from Star Trek and Star Wars

I really don't see how flying cars would be such an improvement unless the population increases and we don't have enough room on land to drive around.

Flying cars are totally awesome, and they should be developed even if they are not practicle, because of the awesomeness.

Everyone would need to get a license to fly. I mean what's the point besides they can fly, ya they could probably go over buildings but if there were as many flying cars as there are wheeled vehicles, how would you control all the traffic? The risk of accidents would probably increase by at least 60%.

The most realistic thing in regards to flying cars, would be flying taxi's or flying shuttle buses. Where the drivers are certified pilots. Would only probably work in large citys though, where business people need to get all over the city in a hurry, while avoiding traffic.
