Everyone wears masks.....It just depends on how thin it is. Me.....I try to be honest,but if it is advantageous for me to lie, I will not hesitate to. I tend to be realistic with it.
You cannot be 100%percent honest these days.....all it does is reveal kinks in your armor.

It doesn't matter if you didn't know them for long time it matters if that person is telling you the truth and I tried to be honest as much as I can.^^

For me, I cannot trust anyone. Some may tell the truth but, who knows?

you cant figure out or even guess everything form online. but on forums the best you can do is so how they react to questions and discussions on all subjects. a person can be good at faking it on certain levels but there are some areas that they will drop the ball on. always look at all the different sides a person has and then decide if the person has more good than bad. its all on personal judgement too. everything is only your opinion so you may not be right even though you feel absolutely sure they are good

My basis on trust relies on facts. I don't care much for opinions(since everyone forgets them over time), and neither do I care if someone tries to act "cool", as that is meaningless, you're a number, not a name. I'll point this out at the start, I trust no one fully except one person.

If your facts add up, then I can trust you.

If you add facts with a bit of humor, I trust you.

If you joke too much, you're questionable.

If you tell me a fact, then tell me another fact afterwards that doesn't make sense to the previous fact, you're questionable.

If you're well known for lying, and say completely different things from time to time, it will be harder for me to trust you at all.

Things I obviously can't tell by reading text on the internet(unless you keep doing it): sarcasm, attitude, anger, etc...unless you point it out to me somehow(tags, capslock, etc).

How do you personally figure out whether you trust a person you meet here on AO or not?

Give it time and you'll know. Consistency is the key.

Mind you there are some people who are upfront about it. "This is my on-line persona." Well as long as they have fun and are honest who cares?

Well for me i try to let them introduce them selves and if i want to get know someone then i either PM them and say hello or something or in my clan area where we can get to know each other.

But as far as trusting goes, i read their posts to see if they give any info about the person and see how they protray them selves that way. Otherwise i just trust people half and half. until i really get to know them.
