His family stated he was suffering from phenomena (sp?) when he died, plus he was taking sleeping pills, plus anexity pills (apparently), so it is looking like an accidental death, but we should all wait and see what the test come out as before jumping to any conclusions. I've heard so many rumours going around it's not funny.

I don't think he messed up his life (compared to a lot of other famous people any way). He seemed level headed, down to earth, loved acting but hated the fame that came with it.

Well you can't really say that unless you have been in their shoes. I understand where you are coming from in terms of their lifestyle, but I for one if present with the same lifestyle I wouldn't say I won't take it. This is very similar to criticizing college athletes who leave early to become professionals. We hear it all, "oh they should stay in school" and "they sold out". But how many of us if presented with a 7-plus digit contract that we can turn it down?

Since I'm not there and I do not know if he OD'ed intentionally or by accident it would kind of wrong to jump to conclusions.

it was pnemonia, it was actually influenza (I've got it now, and it SUCKS)... and the only drugs found in his system were legal ones that he had been prescribed (though not all in the USA or by the same doctor). They tested a $20 found on the scene for drug residue but it came up clean. He didn't OD on illicit drugs, nor were any in his system (or his apartment) at the time of his death.

That doesn't mean he didn't have a drug problem (depending on who you listen to, he may have), but this time, hard drugs don't seem to be the culprit.

OK, I really screwed up that sentence. I meant to say that Heath Ledger had already finished with The Dark Knight but if the Joker isn't supposed to die in the upcoming film he might have had a role in the sequel to it. And of course, that's kind of impossible now unless they replace him with someone else.

I also don't agree with the "He's an actor, what do you expect?" retort I've been hearing a lot recently. Most well paid actors don't die young at all. It's just that tabloids are interested in scandals and the behaviour of famous people is put under a magnifier.

I'm not saying he was a junkie just that it's a lifestyle that teaches them to be careless with drugs, illicit or not. Anyone can die if you take to many of something or the wrong combination and continual high drug use, even over the counter ones, has long term effects on the body that can weaken it and lead to other issues that can kill you.
Authorities discovered six different types of prescription drugs in Ledger's apartment, including the pills to treat insomnia and anxiety as well as an antihistamine, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. Three of the drugs were prescribed in Europe.

Police have said Ledger could have died from a possible drug overdose, but his death appeared to be accidental.
Sorry, but if the lifestyle is killing people maybe you should consider changing it no matter how much money you make.

@Hassun: yeah, it does make a sequel difficult and it is a pity. I am just still having a hard time considering it anything more then another foolish death. Why do we immortalize actors over people who actually make a difference in the world?

Because they bring in the money? Not to mention the film usually takes care of their increase in fame. Should we ban films then?

Many don't agree with that view. Quality over quantity. Better to live hard, fast and short than soft, slow and long.

Take professional athletes for example. Professional sports are very unhealthy for the body and in most sports you're done for in your late twenties - early thirties. Is it worth it? To some it is.

It is sad that he died so young and he definitely didn't seem like the guy who was always high on drugs and such like many of the other actors out there. I mean if he was then the paparazzi and the tabloids would have been all over him like they are Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. They are always sniffing after a new scandal. I also feel sorry for his family and friends particularly his parents. Losing one's child is the worse pain in the world.

Somehow, I still can't grasp the fact that he's dead... Perhaps I rewatched Brokeback Mountain too soon? Dead, really, i'm serious, I can't grasp it... I'm not in denial, it just hasn't sunken in yet.

A shame that he died... I would've liked to see him in more movies, seeing all the other films he starred in... And he's pretty cute, though I like him (heck, I like all men and women better) without facial hair.
