Woo ryomakurosaki... the Docs a just stupid but their are many diseases out their that look almost the same, so if u think that they aren't doing their job then just find someone that can help, maybe the CDC could help. They sometimes help hospitals that can't find a disease that a patiant has, so breath.... and relax and if they still can't help then throw a granade at them that'll make them work faster.

Re: How would you react to..
Just do some research on the symptoms of that "strange disease" of your dad's. Who knows. It might be some ultra rare affliction only affecting 10,000 people right now out of the 6 billion+ on Earth. Oh, and after you find a possible suspect, maybe you should try contacting a specialist. If it turns out to actually be an ultra rare affliction, contact those people in charge of Mystery Diagnosis, please?
Really, if I were faced with that type of situation, I'd do some research myself, and ask other doctors for their output.
Re: How would you react to..
I agree very much with what abby said.
I've learned from many personal experiences that even sometimes the experts don't know what to do, this doesn't mean that they are useless it just means that they are human and like all humans they don't know everything.
Most doctors get their knowledge from college and experience but sometimes both of those can be of no assitance in certain cases when there is something that has never been seen before.
My advice would be, like abby said, do some research.
The net is a great place to start.
Other doctors are also a good resource.
Try posting your questions on medical forums...you never know...you might just get an answer.
Re: How would you react to..
I am the type of a person that would freak out if I hread something like that.especially if it was to someone who is really close to me like my father.......i would definitely get with an argument with the doctor and I would start seriously to go nuts and start being paranoid...but I can't help it because just the though if loosing someone close to you makes me go crazy and who wouldn't..my nest step would be searching for anyone out there.no matter in what country even if I had to go to Antarctica to get the medication or the solution to the problem..i would do that..but I would never give up..never and the is the most important thing to do....because once you give up..there is no going back from that.and it is very important during these times that you have a lot of hope and faith.and believe that miracles to happen.
Re: How would you react to..

Aah, yes, spinning positively on the situation instead of spiraling into a depression will definitely help your friend's family cope with the situation... But you have to remember smiles and happy thoughts won't bring a cure. Take action, my colleagues! And I mean real action! If I were in your friend's place, I'd only resort to any sort of otiose desires only as a last resort... Rely on methods that you can only rely on.
