I think what's most in order is some "now" circulation. Honestly, I don't believe the site can compete with many other anime domains. There was actually this site I joined a few months back where as it acted as a pseudo-refugee "camp" for users who weren't feeling the lessening vibes of AO. I became mod there and though I tried to broach ideas to enhance the site's appeal, nothing I was communicating was listened to. The owners really did nothing to help their own site, so the domain expired and I guess renewal wasn't a prime interest. I enjoyed AO the first couple years I had joined but the site itself seems to be tossed from the loop of current anime news. A home page describing current events, showings, new episodes of the hottest series, general news concerning anime and manga. But since Manga Fox has utter ownership now I don't know what actually direction the site will be sent towards.
I like Zev's idea, as a baby step to a more buoyantly active site again. I guess mine's a bit far-fetched at the moment.
Also, the title "AnimeOnline" seems a bit redundant having noticed it's been overrun with manga chatter. Sorry, I'm just a bigger anime fan than I am a manga fan, that's initially why I joined the site.... for anime, ya know?
