Influential Statements

Hello AO faithful. There are many ways people conduct their lives, and many philosophies that we go by.

I come here to ask what statements influenced your life, or way of doing things? or what is a statement that you use as a tagline for yourself?

Being AO, i want to know why you like the quote, how it fits into your life, where you heard it (if you can remember) and how it influenced you.

For me, one of my favorites is from 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. "Just when they think that they have all the answeres, i change the questions." i always interpret this as "When some one thinks they know everything, baffle them with new knowledge." and it always stuck with me. I've met a few know it all people, and to mess their logic up, i throw them a rhetorical, or a philisophical question. Therefore, they have to open their minds a bit to answer a question with no answer.

For me, the statement that influences me is "Live for today, look forward to tomorrow." It's from blood plus but I can't who originally said it. It's influential to me because it reminds me that no matter how bad things get, tomorrow is a new day and things could always get better!

One of mine is "Man is Mortal, doomed to death, loss, and failure"

Through this I see that no matter what we'll die, and things can always turn up horrible. So I just live life as wanted, expecting the worst at any time.

"To live is to die"

This is what makes me shameless, live life to the fullest, until death comes.

For me, it is "without courage, all other virtues lose their meaning", and it was used by Sir Winston Churchill
My definition of that statement is that a person cannot be afraid to take some sort of a risk in her or his life...and who knows what might happen....it may be for the better...and if you do not..then you shall spend the rest of your life killing yourself and saying "why I did not go ahead and do that"..everybody needs courage in their life.and to me..that is one of the most important elements....

Mine is "i did it for the lulz". The meaning behind this saying is that if you feel guilty after doing something to or tolled some one. If you recite this statement the guilt you have inside goes away because you didn't troll that person for your own benefit, you pretty much did it for the lulz.

For me theres never really been one for me im like ahhhhhhhhhh to me i cant really base my life on a meaning or phrase as you might call it .

mine would be "Science without religion is lame, Religion without science is blind."
the quote is from Albert Einstien. I love this one because it sums up my approach to academics, as well as my approach to debate with churchmen and scientists (they are generally one extreme or another).

For me the most influential is this: "There are three persons within you
1) Who you think you are
2) Who people around you perseive and see you are
3) Who you really are." (My dad)
For me it does not matter how a person describes him/herself a person says more with actions than s/he says wiith words. And many times we don't realize that even we think we are being something... we are seen and we really are different... and most of the time is not who we think we are.

well for me its "man got to believe in somthing, I believe in having another drink" and "As the flowers are all made sweeter by the sunshine and the dew, So this old world is."

The first statement got me to believe in somthing, and somthing it is, and the second statement got me to see the world in a different way than most people see the world and how beautiful the world can be at some point in time

My living philosophy mostly follows along the lines of Epicurieanism, which is summed in short by Epicurus' statement:

I don't focus on negative things, nor do I feel obligated to do much of anything that doesn't make me happy. I guess it's sort of like being an opportunistic optimistic, I live my life doing mostly just things that are fun and jolly. I shrug off everything bad, and never let it affect me. It really is quite an enjoyable life philosophy to me.
